Hi all, new member trying to find out some info on job position - I am considering applying to get the above job but do northern carry out DBS checks for a train cleaner?

I had been going though a bad period suffering with mental health and alcohol issues and I was sacked last year due to my arrest, will this automatically rule me out of the job from the start - am I wasting my time applying.

Is it spent or not?

Afternoon

I am lead to believe Northern do DBS checks for all their roles. What I will say is that unspent convictions do not necessarily rule you out of a job - it all depends on what the conviction was for. For example, if you were convicted of drink driving I wouldn't bother applying to be a train driver!!! My brother has convictions for public order, breach of non-molestation order & harassment. He has working as a delivery driver/HGV driver while his convictions were 'unspent' and this had no impact on his work and he declared everything to his employers. I would suggest contacting Northern's HR for guidance on this. Good luck anyway.

Regards

It was for being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst unfit and assault also had a previous conviction for not supplying a specimen.

You say a DD conviction would stop you getting a drivers job but how would they know if it was spent, do they carry out an enhanced DBS check for railway jobs
