So my friend bought some Beeston to Bristol tickets on Trainline for £51.70 after I searched on trainsplit and saw this fare for splitting at Cheltenham. However, for some stupid reason Trainline sold it with a split at Gloucester, even though the tickets cost the exact same and splitting at Cheltenham gives way more flexibility. Is there any way to change the ticket, or if not, what are the chances ticket inspectors let them off since the tickets cost the same amount - the Gloucester to Bristol single is the same as the Cheltenham to Bristol single

Are the tickets off peak / anytime tickets, or advance ticket? If that's advance ticket, that's not much of flexibility no matter where it's split.
Meanwhile, Trainline seems not providing good split, compare to trainsplit.com or railforum's own ticket sale engine.

I don't see that there's really a problem here, provided they have split walkup fares (rather than Advances) - although it should always be made clear what splits are being sold.

A ticket from Beeston to Gloucester is obviously valid via Cheltenham, and a ticket from Gloucester to Bristol is valid via Cheltenham and then the Gloucester avoider. So your friend isn't limited to actually having to travel via Gloucester - they can simply 'start late' at Cheltenham on their Gloucester to Bristol ticket.

Oh perfect, I didn't realise a Gloucester to Bristol ticket would be valid via Cheltenham - thanks for the good news

Yeah I hate trainline as much as most people on here, but my friends always use it no matter how much i tell them its bad
I just find it so strange that it couldn't find the Cheltenham split, as it shows any trains not via Gloucester at £59.25 rather than the split saving price of £51.70 - the only thing I can think of is that Trainline want to charge people more because then they get more money?
