Hi there,

I've been introduced to this hobby by my boyfriend but new to it myself. We're interested getting some photos of the Eurostar in Kent preferably with countryside in the background. I live in Manchester but taking a trip down south at Easter and wondered if you had any recommendations. I'm going to be staying in Deal. Are there any vantage points you could recommend?

Thanks

Hannah

If you can go over the river to Essex, you could also try the RSPB reserve at Rainham Marshes, although the problem with that location is that there are National Grid pylons next to the line at the closest point to the reserve.

From outside the reserve you may be able to find angles that would allow you to get pictures with Kent in the background.

Just to clarify, Sundridge Hill is on the west side of the Medway, and while it's near-ish to Chatham, it's actually between Strood and Cuxton. Beside Junction 2 of the M2 for the A228. Bing maps (OS maps) location approximately here: https://binged.it/2prWimo
It's also possible to get shots of the line from the footbridges between the housing estates and the woods to the NW of that point (but you might need something to stand on), and there's a public footpath much nearer river level, down beside the Strood-Cuxton railway with views up to the viaduct.
Also views of the viaduct from the opposite bank, on the Burham/Wouldham roads coming out of Borstal/Rochester, and a bridge over the M2/CTRL to the SE of Nashenden Farm, near Rochester Airport.

Just as a side note, it's really admirable of you to embrace your boyfriends hobby in that many people find it rather boring.
Good on you!
