Could the the viaduct between Leeds City Station and Marsh Lane be widened?

The post below has appeared on Skyscraper City and is referring to the recent building collapse in Kirkgate.

"Yes I agree, sadly it's being demolished for the TPRU rail upgrade. It's included within the red line boundary of their works even though the viaduct widening is on the other side."

The inference is the the viaduct between Leeds City Station and Marsh Lane is being widened. I am aware that there is a plan to rebuild, is anyone aware of a plan to widen?

I was unaware of the building collapse until now, but from the still picture (below the video) at this BBC link it seems fairly close to the railway but not immediately adjacent:

I assume the SSC poster has inside knowledge of plans not in the public domain.

There has been talk of widening Marsh Lane viaduct since at least 1990.
Nothing known about an actual plan, just Railway Office talk.
I would imagine that it was in discussion in the early 1990s when there was an idea to have more services provided by through-running of services from Skipton and Ilkley to places like Cross Gates and Wetherby given that the WYPTE could invest in reopening a line that was wholly in West Yorkshire, as well as the continued development of through-running of services from the Calder Valley and TransPennine Express services. In the end the prior didn't happen due to the need to electrify more lines to allow through running and the conversion of the parcels platforms into regular platforms.

That part of Kirkgate has been grotty since the 1970's. The north side of the road has been tarted up, but the south side has just decayed.

It fell down because it wasn't being maintained. Put it this way; why just that building, and not the ones to the left as seen in this video of the story? If it's for TRU, why haven't Network Rail said anything?

I wonder if there‘s a misleading assumption in the SSC forum about the red line boundary? I don’t think it necessarily means ‘to be demolished’, it might just be ‘affected by’, or ‘access temporarily required’.

Possibly, but I think we're seeing (or someone is seeing) causal relationships that doesn't exist. A house near a viaduct was poorly maintained and thus collapsed. It doesn't follow that this is the first step in a new eastern viaduct and four-tracking from Leeds to Neville Hill. Sometimes, Occam's Razor applies.

There are no plans under TRU to widen the viaduct. It would need to be in the TWAO and the public inquiry would have been far more intense than it was!
