So in a few weeks myself and my partner are spending a week in Munich I hold full FIP privileges, she has nothing. I will be getting myself a DB coupon for the week for a few trips we have planned but what would be the best and most cost effective way of getting her tickets?

Planned trips are Munich - Nuremburg, Munich - Garmisch Partikirchen and possibly Munich - Dachau. I wouldn't mind ticking off the München-Nürnberg-Express while I'm out there so validity on ICE/IC services is not critically important to Nuremburg.

So far the only options I can see are either buying them individually or the DB Bavaria ticket, but that seems to only be valid for one day. Is there anything available similar to the British 3 in 7 tickets? Also, does my FIP extend to U-Bahn and trams in Munich?

TIA

No, FIP discounts and coupons can only be used on DB rail services. Note there are also restrictions on FIP on all DB operated services within "Verkehrsverbund areas". It is a bit of a nightmare trying to work out FIP validity in Germany these days.

In some areas of Germany a Verkehrsverbund (combined fares structure) is in operation. In many of these
Verkehrsverbund areas FIP coupons and FIP reduced rate tickets are not valid if your journey is entirely within
the area concerned.

Nurenburg is a Bayern Ticket, Garmisch is a Bayern Ticket, Dachau is an MVV/MVG Ticket (cheaper) and the latter would be best for you too as there are more S Bahns to Dachau than RB/RE

You can get a Werdenfels ticket for Garmisch, that might be cheaper than a Bayern ticket.

Is there no variation of the Bayern ticket valid for more than 1 day?

No. Same goes for all Laendertickets.
OT, but if you and your wife are travelling together, its probably worth paying the extra 7EUR for a 2-person ticket to save the hassles over coupons - the Bayern Ticket (etc) is valid on U-bahn, trams and all urban and most rural buses.

But does the Bayern ticket make sense if we are just using it for a single out and back trip?

These may be simple questions but DB don't seem to translate well into English

That Garmisch Partenkirchen to Kempten is the nicest line in Bayern. Also nice is to Mittenwald, but after that you reach Austria.

One thing that might be problematic to you is that the Bayern-Ticket is only valid after 09.00 M-F.

For the trip to Nürnberg, it would be 3€ cheaper to get a Regio-Ticket München-Nürnberg for 29€ (22€(base price)+7€(one additional person) instead of 32€ for a Bayern-Ticket for two. However that Regio-Ticket is not valid on local public transport whilst the Bayern-Ticket is (The Regio-Ticket is indeed only valid München – Ingolstadt - Nürnberg (DB Regio), Nürnberg – Treuchtlingen - Ingolstadt(DB Regio), Ingolstadt Hbf – Ingostadt Nord(agilis), Eichstätt – Ingolstadt Hbf(BEB)).

A normal, flexible single is 40,70€/Person for the RE (or ~58€/Person on the ICE - that's priced according to the day), but booking an advance on an ICE could get it down to 19,90€/Person one-way - still more expensive than a Bayern-Ticket!

On the Garmisch side, the Regio-Ticket Werdenfels is valid all day, again with a base price of 22€ and a surcharge of 7€ for any additional persons, more information here. Besides what is shown on the Map (Übersichtskarte Regio-Ticket Werdenfels), it includes all S-Bahn trains around München.

The trip to Dachau is fully MVV and a "Gruppen-Tageskarte München XXL" for 16,10€ should be the best option (includes all public transport in München and a decent chunk around it) (a "Single-Tageskarte" costs 8,90€).

Decide yourself if a FIP coupon is worth the saving of 14€.

Thanks for that much simplified and clear explanation, think it covers all my bases and most questions. When you put it as only a 14€ using coupons it seems like a no brainer really.

Is the München – Ingolstadt - Nürnberg Regio service the high speed loco hauled one? Also are these Regio-tickets valid on the various franchises, like ALEX?

I might not have been clear - you would either pay 7€ extra for both the Bayern-Ticket and the Regio-Ticket Werdenfels or you use a coupon (your partner would pay the baseprice).

The München-Ingolstadt-Nürnberg Route is the high speed one. The Regio-Ticket München-Nürnberg is as per my earlier post, the Werdenfells one includes DB Regio and S-Bahn München trains only.
The Bayern-Ticket however is valid on all regional trains in Bavaria, most buses and all trams and metros.
The MVV ticket is also valid on all regional trains within the relevant rings, and includes all other local transport within that area.

Remember you can't use FIP to Dachau as it's fully within the MVV area.

Slight typo and crossed wire guys, it's not worth using a coupon for only 7 euros. I think its decided. Thanks for all your help.
