Hello,
I am looking to move to Aylesbury and commute to London via Tring to Euston route.
I am struggling to find any information or tips re parking at Tring station and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this?
I would likely be leaving Tring anywhere from 07.15-08.30 in the morning and just want to know my chances of having parking difficulty?
Also, are the services ram packed at this time or good chance of getting a seat?
I would be returning from London around 1730-1800 hours and wondering what the chances of getting a seat are then too?
Any tips/info would be appreciated!
Thanks

Tring has a large double-deck car park, so I would expect you won't have issues parking, but I can't say for certain as I've never parked there.

You shouldn't have issues getting a seat at Tring as many trains start there, and the ones that come in as 06xx and 07xx from Bletchley (check the timetable) tend not to be overly busy by Tring. Northbound is a different story and you'd be well advised to arrive in plenty of time if you don't like standing.

While it's slower, why not consider the Chiltern Line from Aylesbury itself; perhaps you could even walk or cycle to the station? It's known to be a rather civilised affair.

You might find yourself getting the Chiltern train some days anyway - during disruption, the Tring stoppers are the first services to be axed.

You'll not have a bother getting a parking space at Tring in the morning, and the 0804 Tring to Euston train is very civilised- it starts at Tring and skips Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead. Parking at Tring is not cheap, though, it's £84 a month. If you're living in Aylesbury (as opposed to somewhere like Aston Clinton) you'd be better off using Chiltern Railways.

As Neil Williams says, it's Apsley and Kings Langley that get screwed over when there's disruption. For the last couple of times LM have taken to running a RRB from Watford to Hemel for passengers there, rather than putting a stop order in their faster trains.

I would recommend Aylesbury or Aylesbury Parkway or if you live on the Bedgrove side of town Stoke Manderville.

Car parking at the above is no problem and the service in the peaks is excellent.

The trains are not crowded until past Great Missenden and it's very reliable and clean.

Bus links to the main station are good and generally connect with trains and there are excellent cafes on the stations, welcome to Aylesbury hope you enjoy living here.

Possibly so it doesn't become known that the latter is way cheaper than airport parking.

It's not now. Got parked in the short stay at the airport for less than the station car park for a 4 day trip. Saved cash and a substandard bus trip.

It might not be any use to you, but it's worth knowing that Haddenham & Thame is about the same distance from Aylesbury town centre as Tring is by road. I guess it depends which side of town you live on whether it's convenient in traffic but I thought I'd mention it.

They are, but they are replaced by calls in faster services (some faster services have Tring calls anyway, it's Apsley and Kings Langley that tend to really lose out).

The OP will probably find these useful:

I found Apsley and Kings Langley tended to get added to the other services during disruption, where as Bushey and Harrow and Wealdstone didn't, which meant at least double the journey time into Euston, 30 minutes from Harrow and even more from Bushey. So glad I no longer commute on those services.

The other thing to expect on the line is for your trains to often arrive into Euston slightly late. At least 2 minutes on average was my experience in the evening into Euston. I'm talking almost every day here. Not sure about head to Tring in the evening but suspect similar occurs, as trains are often late heading into Euston in the evening. This is my experience from over 1.5 years ago now so things may have improved.

From the perspective of watching the trains go by at Watford, Tring is a safe bet. A mix of not too far away and not one of the smaller stations that tend to be ignored during disruption. If services are disrupted, as mentioned, the Tring terminators are the first to go, but other stops will be added to other services for the smaller stations, and Tring still has faster services calling so you will have no worries! The WCML has its' occasional problems, but when it behaves things work well :)

And you can get a season ticket (at a slight premium) which is jointly valid at Aylesbury and Haddenham. You can't get one with joint validity between Aylesbury and Tring, so if you ever can't drive to Tring you'd have to pay again.

Nope, it's exactly the same now. My train is supposed to arrive at 0842 but if it gets in before 0850 it's a minor miracle. The evening trains don't tend to be much better, but it depends; the 1730 has a bit of recovery time at Watford Junction so tends to be on time.

Tring does have a half-decent selection of trains: off peak it is 2x Tring stopper, 1x LM semi-fast and 1x Southern service.

It's a shame there aren't more of these. There's also one from Milton Keynes Central AAA Bedford, which might come in use on occasions.
