I'm planning to spend an afternoon (probably Thursday 28th) in Stalybridge, sampling the best pubs which serve "proper" cider and not just the usual commercial varieties.

Naturally I'll be starting and finishing at the famous station buffet bar which has won CAMRA awards as "cider pub of the year" (that's what bought Stalybridge to the top of my list).

But I'd like some recommendations for any pubs within about 15 minutes walk of the station that serve at least one but preferably several interesting ciders, draught or boxed.

I've started looking at various online reviews but there's not always enough information; for example "The White Horse" (Hydes) seems to have a good beer range but I haven't yet found out about their cider.

I'll carry on poking around online but I thought I'd post this a few days in advance in case anyone with personal experience has any helpful advice.

Other advice about any pubs to definitely avoid is also welcome!

Unfortunately CAMRA's WhatPub app doesn't list any other pubs in Stalybridge or the surrounding area that sell 'proper' cider. You may be better off heading into Central Manchester, where there are several appropriate outlets.

Alternatively you could visit Calderdale, where there are several 'real ale and real cider' pubs. Nan Moor's bar in Todmorden (5 minutes walk from the station) is the current CAMRA Yorkshire Cider Pub of the Year. The Fox & Goose community co-operative pub in Hebden Bridge (15 minutes walk from the station) usually has two ciders on sale and the Puzzle Hall community co-operative pub in Sowerby Bridge (10 minutes walk from the station) can usually be relied-upon to come up with something interesting. A little further along the line, the Jacob's Well (5 Minutes walk from Bradford Interchange) often has more traditional ciders than real ales....and they usually have eight of those! should ever decide to give our lovely valley a try, feel free to DM me and I'll happily join you for a jar or three if we can fix a mutually-convenient date.

Thanks for that, I've got three days to consider my options now. :)
