Hi all, upon a look at rtt I've came across a usually long formation of trains to Crewe.

The formation is made of 150241+153910 which is joined in Shrewsbury by 158840+153318+153914.

I expect this is a mistake by real time trains but the diagram onto Crewe Cs is also booked the same units which is unusual.

This looks to be 1W80 2155 Cardiff to Crewe running today.

Considering that the usual route between Shrewsbury and Crewe is shut (the train is running non-stop via Wrexham and Chester) I wouldn't be surprised if it was being used as a bit of an ECS move still in passenger service, especially as its straight off to the depot afterwards.

Saves running multiple trains via the longer route, and I can't imagine that all eight carriages will be unlocked and available for use.

It’s often formed of multiple sets, it’s basically a positioning move for units but in passenger service. Can literally be any combination of a units

It is over the limit of cabs for a sprinter train from Shrewsbury. In the end the units due to join at Shrewsbury ran as an earlier ECS as 5W80. 1W80 21.55 Cardiff - Crewe is often used to move Sprinters North and often has some strange formations.

Reminds me of the first train from Crewe towards Holyhead on a Sunday morning, that can be an interesting formation as far as Chester (I've seen it as a 158+153+153+150 in the past). Used as a way to get some sprinters to Chester for other services.
