Just looking for some pointers really. With a long standing interest in US steam, circa 1930 onwards, just wondering how many shops/outlets deal in same here in UK. I know Hattons and Rails (Sheffield) have both stocked some items, and I have purchased from both in this regard. But other than them, and any pre owned items that may come up on certain other sites, does anyone have any other recommendations? There are items I am interested in, but the nearest shops I know of are in New York, which has a bit of a high postage surcharge involved!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.

Peco’s Continental Modeller magazine is, I think, the best for retailers adverts: it certainly used to have many of them and was the best for anywhere outside of Britain and Ireland. Sadly, Bernie Victor’s excellent emporium in the Pentonville Road is long gone.

I model USA in N scale and https://mech-models.com/ near Burton on Trent are my go-to shop.

They have a good stock of HO/N models and will try and order more obscure products if you ask.

They provide a mail order service but if you visit the shop you can get a free cup of tea or coffee off them whilst you’re browsing. You need a car though, as it’s on a rural industrial estate away from public transport.

Just to add I've had a lot of success on ebay for the HO market. Models tend to go MUCH cheaper than OO stuff, partly due to the lower demand & also possibly lack of detailed HO loco knowledge. If you know the type of loco/cars/coaches you want it's quite fruitful!

I have a micro HO switching layout & got my resident MP15DC & GP15-1 for a combined £95. Virtually new 2nd hand locos.
