Hi

We have produced a video guide to split ticketing, here is the link;

The video guides you through what split ticketing is, how it works, the main principles and things with which you must comply.

It goes on to recommend 2 sites - This Rail Forums’ split ticket facility and Split My Fare.

It then busts some myths and preconceptions.

I should point out that we are independent and not affiliated to either site - our research and experience has led us to believe that both are comprehensive resources and stand out above similar sites.

We recommend buying from the site where you do the research as it often pays a commission which helps fund future development. Let's be honest; without the research which has led to these tools, rail travel for many would be more expensive.

The video mentions Delay Repay and a 15 minute trigger - it does specify that each operator has its own criteria. Just for clarity; the 15 minute trigger does not apply to all.

Finally, if you feel inclined we’d be delighted if you would subscribe to our channel and like the video.

Thanks

John and Lou

Thanks for this.

If anyone is really desperate to avoid the fees, then by all means add each ticket to your basket individually, but please do so on the site that found the savings, rather than another site, as at least that way, the site gets something.

It's also worth noting that there can be benefits of booking the journey with a through itinerary, but the next best thing is to book on one transaction.

Also bear in mind sites like LNER charge admin fees, to change advance tickets, on a per ticket basis, whereas we only charge one fee for the entire transaction, regardless of the number of tickets / passengers.

We will also do our best to help any of our customers who are mistreated by train companies, which sadly happens a lot more often than it should.

The commission the forum site receives helps with the forums running costs and reasonable expenses (none of the volunteer forum staff take a salary), so not only are we saving passengers money, but the passengers are also helping us with the upkeep of the forum :)

My daughter was asking me about split tickets as she will be travelling from Taunton to Heathrow sometime and I suggested she watch this video, which I have just watched. It seems to cover all aspects of the procedure and hopefully she will make use of it.
