How would you ever go about electrifying this stretch of line?

If you really wanted to, you could just put some form of plastic/perspex/glass canopy/shield over the top of the Cantenery and maybe a third of the way down the side that is getting hit by the waves. But, it would be very ugly and I don't think it would be tolerated in such a beauty spot.

Definitely going to be sticking point somewhere in the future. Could this be the reason to open the northern Cornwall route as an electrified link to the south west, where there isn't a solution at Dawlish? Or perhaps stick with bi-modes indefinitely and electrify either side of it?

This low pressure system has not been named "Doris" yet. It doesn't look like its going to be either.

Must be a bit of an interesting experience given how well pacers tend to do at keeping water out.

For discussion on the impact of Storm Doris on the network please use the main thread here. If anyone wishes to discuss any specific impacts on Dawlish or on the future electrification of Dawlish feel free to use this thread.

Many thanks.

Brunel should've thought about the need for electrification when he built it.
