Today (12th August) I received an email from Virgin Trains saying that I would be getting automatic delay repay for my delayed journey from Glasgow to Birmingham on the 10th August, I do not have any issues with this however on the 11th I put in a delay repay claim .in on their online form as I did not realise about the automatic delay repay and my concern is now there will be a delay in getting it paid because there are 2 claims for the same ticket will they realise this or do I need to contact them to cancel my original claim?

If you received a confirmation for your online claim, reply to it with the reference. They are really quick at responding to emails.

Their website says they'll send an email within 24 hours of your journey, telling you you'll get automatic delay repay.
In my experience this never happens. It's always more than 24 hours, if it comes at all.

So it's really their own fault if people are making claims when automatic delay repay is due.

I made one claim after not receiving the email from them, they paid the automatic delay repay on time, then a few weeks later they denied the manual claim I'd made.

Exactly the same happened to me
