So on Saturday I'm on the 18:55 from Manchester to Euston due in at 21:18, however how likely is it that the arrival time will be earlier than the stated time? I've gotta get from Euston to London Bridge for 21:30 for one train or 21:40 for the another, so arriving earlier at Euston would be handy.

I was on one from Preston on Oct 6th that got into Euston a whole 13mins earlier than it was supposed to so was wondering if this is the normal or my encounter was a rareity.

The working timetable says that it is due in to Euston at 2118 so unless some early running is gained on route between Crewe and Euston then it is likely to be 2118.

Click the 'tools' logo up the top and the time shown is the working timetable with the times in brackets being the public timetable.

I use that site all the time, although it says the train that I was on that got into Euston 13mins early arrived 5mins early instead, so I assume that side of it needs tweaking a bit.

I was on a train once between Bristol and London which somehow managed to arrive into Reading 15mins early, which was all good apart from the extra 12ish minute wait there :(

That site only shows the time the trains are booked for, of course you may encounter early running or indeed slow running and arriving late.

The 18:55 on a weekday typically arrives in London around 21:10 (I've used it several times), and that's with an additional stop at Milton Keynes. I would be reasonably confident in making the 21:40 from London Bridge - maybe just be prepared for a bit of a power-walk!

It is timed to use the slow lines from MKC onwards. If it does use the slows it will be behind the 2109 LM from New St and the 2115 from Liverpool so is unlikely to arrive early. However if it can use the fast lines it should be able to arrive early.

It will depend what if any engineering work is being carried out that weekend.

TFL's journey planner says that it takes 20 minutes to get from Euston to London Bridge, so unless your train arrives significantly earlier than its timetabled time I think you're going to have to be very lucky to get the 21.40

Hmmm... Catch an earlier train.

Can't, on an advance ticket that only cost me £3.90, the joys of RSH e-vouchers

The 21:15 arrival from Liverpool is booked into Platform 7, the same platform my train arriving at 21:18 is booked for, odd.

Slow lines blocked 2000 south of Hanslope so all trains will run on fasts after this time.

Guaranteed to make up time then as all trains are timed slow line during the two track periods.

If you run, that should include interchange time (well, I could do it, but I don't know if everyone could!).

It got in 5mins early, shame it come in on Platform 18 so wasted that 5mins walking from the train to the concourse, made the train after at London Bridge so was only back half hour later so not too bad.
