Apologies if this has been discussed on another thread. I've noticed a WCRC ECS tomorrow Carnforth to Coleham
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:U66227/2023-07-09/detailed

But then the day after, Monday through to Thursday, theres the following recurring moves

And then ECS on Thursday back

Can be assumed they'll be ran by the WCRC ERTMS fitted 37s, anyone know what these are for?

The 97's are the only locos fitted with ERTMS equipment for the Cambrian.
Could it be something to do with the new bridge elements delivered by road to Barmouth this week?

Ohh I thought 37669 and 668 are/used to be fitted with it, perhaps not or not anymore? In which case, assuming there's currently 97s in Coleham then I'd guess they're the only choice. Still though, WCRC operated. Very bizarre

I understand that these are trips for people involved with the East Coast mainlines ERTMS to undetstand the Cambrian's implementation. Hopefully they realise that this is not a good case study.

I may be wrong but AIUI there were two different designs of ERTMS kit. 97302-304 were fitted with one make of kit, and 97301, 37668 and 37669 with the other.

Not sure if 97301 has ever worked successfully on the Cambrian but it is now stored unservicable with a demic power unit at somewhere like Rowsley.

Have the WCRC 37s ever worked on the ERTMS system ?

I couldn't find many pictures outside of initial testing from back when they were fitted (which I believe was 2016) though I didn't do too much in-depth searching. Would be interesting to see what goes down to Shrewsbury - if it turns out to be 668/669 then this might be the first time the locos use the ERTMS equipment in a long time

Its just passed me at Acton Bridge - 37706 and a maroon liveried inspection saloon. Assuming 706 is still not fitted with ERTMS, does anyone know what 97s are in Coleham that could run the service?

Formed 37706 and saloon 999506
Well timed!

Runs over the Cambrian itself are to be formed with 97302 or 303 + 37405 + Saloon 999506.
Ahh perfect, thanks!

Back in BR days the line was RA5 so "heavyweights" were banned.

However times have moved on and RA7 locos are reasonably common down there. Colas 56s ballasting last month

57012 won’t be able to run over the Cambrian, will have to swap for a 97 as 57s have the wrong Route Availability
Indeed - same as last time when WCRC 37706 shuttled the saloon to Coleham last time but didn't run the actual moves. Does anyone know what 97s are in Coleham for the benefit of anyone who may wanna see this?

97302 is the only 97 at Coleham right now and it allocated to do the Cambrian work.
