Welshpool,five X 158s double units today

Passed Welshpool Station at around 1600 today, just leaving on the down line were five sets of 158s(ten carriage) must be a reason for this.

I doubt ATW could afford to lose 5 158s in one go though, but I think youre right with ECS

The down line is to Aber, the sets had come from Shrewsbury as a service train.

If they did it would be very crowded and plus if they did, it would take an very long time to get an empty stock working from Mach to Holyhead and Birmingham International to start an passenger working

Maybe the ERTMS EDS units going somewhere for a mod?

Some do, but other 158s are stabled at Holyhead for the Brum runs etc

AIUI, the 158's are all allocated to Machynlleth, but are stabled at other places overnight for refuelling and cleaning as necessary.

Yes the Garage is at Mach for the 158s, the other garage up here is at Chester for the 175s, so I presume the 5 units must be on the way for service,of which two units would be on the service train anyhow.

BTW lots of sprinters on the HHD to CDF run, must be a shortage of 175s
