What Game to Buy?

Hey guys, which is the best game to buy when it comes to rail simulaters?

ive been looking at a few but have no idea which is going to be the better one

Im am a desiel man... class 50's, 37's. 47's and 33's
and id like something that would represent my local area of wiltshire and south west...

and do you have to buy new routings to be able to run all class 50's for example or can you drag and drop them and have them run where ever you want? also how does double heading work? is it possible

I'm also looking for a sim game, finding many though arent compatable with windows 7 according to many of the online sellers. So does anyone know any which are compatible with windows7?

Railworks is the best for graphics and there's a whole new load of add ons available. Railworks 3 is being released shortly. But firstly, you need to check that your PC is capable of handling the game. Click the link, select 'Rail Simulator' from the dropdown menu and run the analysis. It will tell you if your computer is compatible (or not!).

The Class 47 comes with RW2. The routes that come with it are Oxford-Paddington via Reading, Newcastle-York (seventies route) and a few other US and European ones I've never really bothered with. Good routes available to download include Newcastle-York modern, Bristol-Exeter and Glasgow-Edinburgh (plus the never created Glasgow rail link!)

If you are a first time train simmer, you could start with MSTS (will work on pretty much anything) or Trainz. Trainz is the easiest to use. It takes you all of five minutes to build a good route and start driving.

Trainz has all those locomotives available as freeware (including loads of different 37s and 47s). Routewise, I'm sure you'd find something, as there's no shortage of freeware routes avaiable.

No, you can run as many as you want.

Using Surveyor in Trainz is easy, and means you can place trains wherever you want, and have it hauling whatever you want.

also how does double heading work? is it possible

Place 2 of them at the head of the train. Sorted

I would suggest Railworks.

But for that wait till after the 23rd of this month as you will get an extra route for free unlike us previous owners who won't but are getting a free upgrade to RW3.

Its easy to add items to the routes, and large amount avaible both freeware and payware.

Default UK stock on Railworks is Class 37, 43 (HST), 47 (Revamped/ Upgraded) , 55 (Maybe upgraded) , 166 (Revamped/ Upgraded) , S&Djr 7f, Black 5 and various bits of German and american stock. Also a new UK locomotive that is to be added to core but not yet annouced

Another good game, which is free is Openbve with DMUs, EMUs, foreign trains and locomotives.

Really depends on how much you are willing to pay. Railworks offers amazing graphics, sounds, and generally extremely realistic gameplay. But this comes at a cost, the game itself is very expensive aswell as the addons.
OpenBve offers a vast amount of routes and trains, however high quality cannot always be guaranteed. For the trains you want, a good route would be NWM.

£20.00 for the download version from Steam if you want it right now, or you can buy it from Just Trains for £15.00 and receive £1.80 worth of loyalty points as well.

Bear in mind this will be upgraded in two weeks to Railworks 3 at no extra cost as well.

Perhaps it was misleading, I was speaking from my own experience of buying the boxed version from Amazon.

I got it off Amazon for £20 and it came on the second day. I actually think Amazon are the best for books, films and games. Not only are they cheap, they are incredibly punctual and fast to deliver.
