As above, what is the standard walk-up fare from Newcastle to Hexham, with a senior railcard please ?

I intend visiting Hexham in a couple of weeks and note that buying advance fares would be a maximum of £4 .. quite a bargain !

However, to give me some flexibility on the homeward journey an 'off peak return' would be better, priced at £5.65. Maybe this is the best deal, or is just turning up and buying from the ticket machine even better, considering I can happily buy the outward journey in advance and select the cheapest £1.95 fare .. it's only the return trip that I don't have an exact time in mind.

If somebody could explain HOW to find out the standard fare I would be grateful. if I lived near the station I could just look on the ticket machine.

Final question .. on the image, why is one price shaded in green

An off-peak day return with railcard from Newcastle to Hexham is £5.65 with restriction code B3, "Not valid on trains timed to depart after 04:29 and before 09:00" on Mondays-Fridays, https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail...ert=on&flow=0&multi=1&fare=1&rte=1000&tkt=CDR

The http://www.brfares.com Web site will give you raw fares information without having to pretend to buy a ticket for a specific train and will give you information on the restrictions for each ticket it shows.

Many thanks !

So it looks as if the cheapest single would be £5.60.

Even with getting the cheapest advance single outbound, I would still be better off with the off-peak return

The green prices are the journeys it deems to be "best" (either cheapest, fastest or "best value" depending what you have selected at the top). I think it's probably fair to say this highlighting (for best value especially) is of very limited use for simple searches like this

I'm glad I know now ..

My wife and I are returning from Liverpool in September via Carlisle and I've already booked a great TPE ticket from LIV to CAR, for a total of about £13.

The price shown for CAR-NCL was £27.10, which I see now is the very maximum we would pay. By waiting this will certainly go down, maybe even to £4.40

thank you

On Trainsplit you select Flexible instead of Fixed Time.
On other sites it may be Open Return
