Learned contributors,
We have seen that manufacturers are prepared to revise their loco designs to fit the U.K loading gauge for relatively small batches of locomotives.
GM for a total of 15 Class 59 5 59/0, 4 59/1 and 6 59/2
GM - Alsthom 30 Class 67
GE - 20 (19) Class 70
Vossloh 15 Eurolight UK ( Class 68 ?)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The following have allegedly stated they would consider developing a U.K. compatible locomotive in response to firm orders -:
Bombardier Traxx
Siemens Vectron
Vossloh 4000 ( Big brother to Eurolight ) Already ordered by GBRF's parent company
Voith Maxima CC
Alstom Prima 2.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
In view of this who do you think in your considered opinion are the likely operators. I know its a bit like fantasy railways but it could be fun to see which if any we get right in the future.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I think a batch of ten Eurolights for one of the leasing companies. They must be cheaper to run than the hired in DB 67s for niche operators?
GBRF for either Voith Maxima or Vosloh 4000 they alone of the big bulk haulers haven't gone for more grunt than Class 66 (DB with Revised 60's, FL with 66/6 and Class 70)
Mendip Rail for Voith Maxima when their almost 30 year old 59s start to tire, they haven't had an easy life !

Go on have a go it could be fun.
Thanks for your time and trouble
Be lucky
David

No more locos, just re-engine some 47s or 60s or 92s or something... Please!

It's alright really. As long as we don't get any more uglys *cough70cough* - they look alright at the right angle though.

I can see DRS adding a follow on order for Class 68s if they prove to be successful and they can find regular work for them. FL perhaps may eventually may get all 30 Class 70s one day too, they seem to be the only companies trying to reduce it's reliance on Class 66s. Other than that I cannot see any of the FOCs ordering anymore diesels anytime soon. Colas seem to be more than happy to be reactivating Class 56s, we may see likes of FL (to replace their Class 86s) or DRS order new electrics when the wires go up on more routes, I doubt DBS and GBRf will be interested however as they have plenty of Class 90s (DBS) and Class 92s doing very little.

Actually heard DRS are getting 16 class 68's 15 for general purpose use and 1 for Northern Belle duties, and yes, they do have an option for tag on orders.Eventually the 66's will need replacing, and I think there will be an order for European built locos instead, yes we'll still have the GE class 70's but I wouldn't be too surprised if Vossloh is asked to build a Co-Co version of the G2000BB type loco (similar looks to a 58) maybe a mix of those and the UK version of the Eurolight 4000's.Still scope for the CNR dalian types you see for KiwiRail in NZ.vectrons,Prima-2's and Traxx's would be good, but I don't think we'll see them soon.As for the Voith Maxima, that would be great to see, however as much as I'd like to see a mixture of locos again,it looks like that's our lot for the time being.86's and 90's perhaps the 92's will need replacing,so you never know, but maybe a few years away from that just now!

Only one for the Northern belle? I thought they usually top and tail it with matching 47s at the moment?

From what I read recently, one of the first batch of 16 is a dedicated Northern Belle loco,it's to be painted in Northern Belle colours before being sent to Carlisle. This doesn't mean to say they will stop the top and tail system, although if they do get hold of DVT's/DBSO's who is to say?
