I am looking to book a single journey, for my wife and I, in September from Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street

It will be for Sunday 15th September, sometime in the morning.

There is a decent-priced fare (changing at Doncaster) on the forum's site (£34.60) .. see attached

This would be fine, but there's a direct train leaving an hour earlier and arriving 2 hours earlier in Liverpool, but this is about 3 times the price.

When would cheaper 'direct' TPE train tickets become available. For late in August, also on a Sunday there are tickets for about £36

Have a look at this, it will tell you when the advance tickets go on sale

The TransPennine Route Upgrade may well be the big determining factor. The line is closed through Huddersfield every weekend in August (except the Bank Holiday) and I note that the TPE website says they are "awaiting engineering updates" for each weekend in September too.

Thank you for your comment

if the line is possibly going to be closed, why are there tickets available to buy on the same day at 08:38 (see my attachment) .. just a pity it is £100+

Maybe I should just opt for the LNER to Doncaster route first .. that's quite a decent price for two people, rather than maybe waiting and losing it

Through trains are usually diverted via Hebden Bridge when Huddersfield is closed, but it will be that the timetable has not been finalised yet. Advances don’t normally go on sale until the timetable is finalised; the £100 ticket is a walk up flexible single.

OK, thank you

I see cheap direct TPE tickets are now available on the forum's site (see attached) but for some reason they aren't on TPE's own website, which seems a wee bit strange .. UPDATE they are now
