Possible options

Approach Booths at Rotherham or Raxstar at Eastleigh to see if they have seats available from trains they are scrapping.

Look on ebay for train seats

'I earn thousands selling bits of the London Underground - some pieces can go for £20,000'

An old seat is the perfect investment if you are willing to sit on it for a few years.

A city lawyer makes thousands of pounds on the side by selling bits of the London Underground meant for scrap. Benjamin Denton-Cardew, 24, once sold a 1950s Bakerloo line carriage for as much as £20,000 after pulling it from a barn and doing it up. His lucrative hobby began as a train obsessed 14-year-old who liked to collect old Tube parts.

As he got older and began to clear stuff out he realised "it was worth some money". After studying in Glasgow Ben spent time as a railway consultant, giving him access to stuff "other people did not have". Now as a railway lawyer he uses his old connections to get first dibs on stock which will otherwise be "shredded".

He said: "I am very much of the view that as much should be saved as possible. I remember stuff I bought for £10-15 and sold ten years later for £200-300. It's about buying stuff at the time and sitting on it as an investment, and then letting it go eventually."

Ben literally sits on some of his investments, which includes old Tube seats. He said: "I always think if you are going to keep something like that it has to have a purpose. I stuck them [the tube seats] on a box and used them as some hall furnishing on my landing - they were quite a talking point."

Ben's Suffolk home has 30 pairs of seats, 15 tables, three train doors, control panels, cab components, and sides of trains, while his Radlett house has four pairs of seats, one table, and some small control panels. Ben said he's "not a hoarder" though, just a "great believer in upcycling".

He revealed there is a lot of demand for this type of furniture, with similar items going for £600-700 on Etsy. "I can do it for a quarter of that," he added. The skill comes in knowing what will sell, for example the current Bakerloo and Piccadilly line stock which will be retired soon. He is less interested in the Central line.

"We have sold whole railway carriages," he said, "As a team we have bought them for £2,000-3,000 and sold them for twenty after refurbishment work. But they are very few and far between. More common is selling individual parts - last week Ben sold a D-stock carriage door for £150.

Getting an old carriage is "all done above book" but takes a big effort. He said: "We went in with a team and stripped the whole carriage. They are very well put together and not very easy to take apart. There could be 20-30 bolts thread locked in, you need power tools, and a lot of strong guys to get a seat off."

If you're interested in buying scrapped trains there's nothing stopping you, but you'll need the right contacts. Ben's keen to keep his cards close to his chest so you might need a job at Network Rail first - and enough space to store a District line carriage. If you want to get your hands on some London Underground bits and bobs, you can message Ben here.

I do currently have a cab chair for sale at the moment. I am based in Kent.

I have attached some pics for reference.

Description below.

Beleived to be a Chapman Nova Classic on either a MK300 or MK128 base. Chair has been split from base to make it easier to move.

Overall in good condition. It is missing one armrest although on looking at the side material it looks like it was never fitted?

Reputed to come from Chart Leacon Depot. It fits the following trains (possibly more)

Class 82 DVT
Class 165/166 Networker
Class 170/171/172
Class 365 Networker
Class 465/466 Networker

Lt Musuem where previously selling similar Cab seats for £375 (only difference is Moquette).

£100 ono
