Just passed Dunkeld on my way Home and seen a DRS class 66 light loco parked up in the siding, I’m pretty sure it said 66422, there is no information of it heading there at any point, does anyone know how it got there and why?

Its 66122 not 66422. Dumped there on Saturday afternoon by 68005 after suffering a seized traction motor at Blair Atholl on Friday afternoon while heading 4D47 Inverness-Mossend and blocking the Highland Main Line for 24 hours, needed a wheelskate fitted to allow recovery.

Ok, I thought it had something to do with the Tesco on Saturday.

Post by James Wemyss over on the Scot-Rail Io group says that the wheel skates have been removed and that the latest attempt to get the loco back to Motherwell should take place today.

Dunkeld to Stirling is a long way on a wheel skate. 70km. Probably averaging 20km/h?

Looking at RTT probably just a 5 hour overnight window between the Southbound Sleeper passing and the Northbound Sleeper passing for the regular skate inspections.

It ran from Dunkeld to Stirling without a wheel skate after fitters worked on it at Dunkeld and then apparently was failed again and then put in the sidings at Stirling. I assume for more attention by fitters or a drag back to Motherwell or Kingmoor at some point in the future.

Well clearly it shouldn’t have been allowed to leave Dunkeld on its own under the circumstances. Why was a drag to Motherwell not possible?

They couldn't sort out a sutable road route to get it from Dunkeld. I suspect they've moved it to Stirling as they can get access to move it by road.

It was repaired at Dunkeld and past fit to run. When it was part way through the journey it developed a fault which means it couldn’t run to Motherwell as planned. As for road transport in Stirling that is near impossible.

A bit more than that, 48.5 miles to use railway measurements. The driver would also struggle to gauge 20km/h on his speedometer marked in miles per hour but it would be slower than that over points and crossings.

On a service running through Stirling and have just seen 68018 currently connected up to 66122 in the sidings with staff on the trackside; looks like they might be attempting a drag today.
