The Wokingham to Farnborough ticket nominates both Farnborough Main and Farnborough North as the destination. Travelling directly on the GWR Redhill/Gatwick service its implied you have to walk from ... North to .... Main ("Walk from Farnborough (Main) to Farnborough North" - Trainline).

An alternative route is Wokingham to Ascot, change to Ash Vale, change to Brookwood, change to Farnborough Main,

So as the ticket explicitly says its to Farnborough Main I would assume that this route via Ascot/ Ash Vale etc is permitted? Even though its in excess of 3 miles longer than the GWR route because that does not actually take you to Farnborough Main.

The reason for asking is my son is at Farnborough College and 90% of the time would simply go to Farnborough North and back to Wokingham, however on occasion he may need to go to work in Bracknell on the way home and the journey time and arrival times would be perfect as opposed to going back to Wokingham which would take up to another hour if he wants to avoid the risk that one or other train is >2 minutes delayed (transfer time).

So rather than walk to Farnborough North, he'd walk to Frimley (ie cutting in on the Ascot to Ash Vale leg), up to Ascot and into Bracknell. Also a useful back up route. Would this be permissible?

Thanks in advance for reading/ replying

Thanks bakerstreet, however the question is really is the route via Ascot a permitted route.

We don't want to get to Farnborough (Main), just back from Farnborough 6th Form College via Bracknell on the most reliable (ie not missing connections) and timely route. I'll try and get to the ticket office over the weekend and see what they have to say.

It's a permitted route, yes. Have you tried putting in Camberley as a via point? Trainline (and other retailers) are happy to offer the ticket that way.

I would try and travel in line with the itinerary offered when buying your ticket, so that in the event of any dispute as to validity, it is easily demonstrable that the ticket is valid.
