Worth pursuing with Ombudsman?

It seems that two sets of staff at KX managed to give the OP wrong information. Probably because they did not look closely enough at the ticket held.
Could this be used in mitigation? Although it seems the OP made a mistake in terms of not heeding the information on the tickets, if two members of staff also missed it, then it could be argued that the ticket wasn't clear enough?

The final integrated GBR public system will presumably remove most of these cheap, competitive, split ticketing opportunities and eliminate the sort of saving that the OP was hoping to take advantage of.
You could sometimes save money by split ticketing even in BR days, but it has become particularly prevalent with the rise of advance tickets undercutting the standard fares. If the LNER trial is rolled out nationally, I suspect that split ticketing is going to become almost a necessity for anything other than a simple A to B journey on a single train.

Is that the privatised system on which LNER (a government owned company) runs trains on Network Rail (a government owned company) by any chance?
OK.OK.
Just delete "privatised". It's the mentality and over legalistic culture which which I was getting at.
