Long story short,

My sister (17) was caught earlier today using my 18+ TFL oyster photocard on her bus ride returning home. The inspector confiscated my oyster photocard from her. She had been using my Oyster photocard for months so I'm pretty sure they can track that this has been an ongoing offence. Has anyone else suffered from a similar experience? If so, what happens next? Also, will I get in trouble or is it just her as it was indeed my photocard in use. Lastly, what is the best way to go about all this?

Welcome to the forum!

Does your sister have her own Oyster card, or are you and she in effect sharing one travel card?

I will admit that I am not sure that this will make any difference in practice to how this matter is resolved, but it may make a difference to whether TfL have lost any income from what your sister has done.

If the OP knew their sister was using the card, this could be a problem for them, not just for the sister. If they say they didn't know, TfL might need a lot of convincing.

Am I right in understanding that this means the 17 year old would be effectively overpaying as she would have been entitled to a 16+ zip card with a greater discount?

That's only going to be a reasonable argument if they actually have a 16+ Zip card.
