I put in a application form for one of these advertised vacancies earlier this year and have not heard anything since except for an acknowledgement form. Just wondered if these posts still exist chaps?.

Weren't these vacancies subject to DfT funding (something to do with getting the Edinboro' - Glasgow route from East Coast)?

If that is the case then the current sqeeze on anything called 'funding' may have some bearing on things :(

All the recent media stories about the Glasgows (and indeed ECML Co's own announcement about the Eureka TT) suggest that XC will now be needing a few more drivers.

(I've been wondering if the TUPE rules should ensure some ECML Glasgow depot drivers get transferred to XC? I assume this doesn't necessarily apply to Leeds, because existing ECML services are also being increased so you wouldn't expect any surplus EC drivers there.)

While I'm sure there are Glasgow Central based guards for EC, if I'm not mistaken Edinburgh based drivers for EC do the Glasgow Central services?

Yes, there are guards and catering staff at Central, though not for much longer it would seem! Yes, Waverley and I think Newcastle have drivers depots, but I do not profess to be an expert of course. :)

Ive heard since posting that it was the funding issue and one vacancy filled by an internal move so i am stuck on class 66s for now.

I'd heard similar a few weeks ago but it could have just been gossip so didn't mention it.

I was also under the impression that these vacancies were created because of december timetable changes - i've recently heard that the date is actually May 2011!!

That's what you call forward planning : hold interviews almost 12 months before the jobs are actually going to appear :(

I was only going by the general rants in the Scottish press. I suppose where the drivers who work to Glasgow are based is a minor point, XC will still need X number of drivers for their service changes, wherever they end up being based, e.g. an extra driver at Leeds can allow diagrams elsewhere to be changed as well as at Leeds IYSWIM.

That is pretty much certain, although the Dec 2010 start for SLC2 was the plan, something changed around the end of last year, and by about February this year all the letters on the ORR website have included a May 2011 start date...

No drivers based at central for east coast. Edinburgh and Newcastle men go through there. Edinburgh men do the nightshift at polmadie and get taxied to cntral for the first couple in the morning.
