Also - if the journey planner does not have your planned train on it then you can add it manually in the app. Taking a paper copy of the European Timetable would be a useful backup.
I have had a similar issue. The LNER tickets appear in the Apple Wallet ok but I get notifications on my lock screen the day after linking to the tickets already used the previous day.

However, I seem to recall that Stagecoach have a half hourly 585 service which the Daytripper ticket may be valid on.

There are a few things which perturb me about this particular happening.
The fact that the person responsible for making the arrangement to swap trains did not "follow through" by advising the platform staff and making appropriate arrangements.

There was a tweet this morning from Caledonian Sleeper that the Euston to Inverness train was delayed by a broken down train and would be 80 minutes late. As it transpired this was a wildly optimistic estimate!
Passenger Focus have a section about this issue on their website. They confirm the advice given by previous posters but include the information that TOCs must make reasonable endeavours to meet maximum queuing times of 5 mins peak and 3 mins off peak.
