There isn’t much to cut on the Conwy Valley Line, during Covid and for many months after the last train left Llandudno just after 4pm!

Not sure there are seat reservations on EMR Norwich-Liverpool trains? It’s normally a free for all at Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly!

Bank holiday Sunday, warm sunny weather and all services to/from St Anne’s on Sea and Blackpool South suspended owing to ‘a short notice change to the timetable’… aka no staff willing to work overtime - not that I blame them!

No way I would risk the 1923 arrival! Personally, I would aim for the 1853 which should give time for a quick drink/snack and toilet break before enduring 2 hours+ on the 11 bus!

Perhaps check out advance tickets between Llandudno Junction and Chester, provided you know which trains you are going to use…?

Probably because there are diversionary routes they aren’t busting a gut to fix it, if the landslip had been east of Chinley then they would move heaven and earth (!!!) to fix it …!

Maybe the concessions on the Conwy Valley are valid all year because there are virtually no bus services between Betws y Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog?

Hawarden Bridge is not in Hawarden though!

Perhaps if the Avanti services were more reliable they may sell more tickets…?

Thanks for the update, mk1979. Great to see that the original Red Route is now entirely commercial and not requiring any subsidy, hopefully the innovative Blue Route will prove popular and stand up commercially in its own right next summer! Pleased to see some innovation on the X17 Service...

Agreed, but as it is ‘primarily a tourist service rather than part of the local public transport network’ should tax payers money be subsidising it? Maybe Peak Rail could ask the Government for financial support to run more train services between Matlock and Rowsley…?

Doubt @Welshman see post #347 would necessarily agree with you…? Typical shambolic service from Avanti on the north Wales coast, and of course TfW only run one train per hour on Sundays all day west of Chester, which if you are lucky may consist of more than 2 cars..!

I fear you may be correct. The problem now is that many frequencies on mainline Chesterfield depot services have been cut, I don’t think there are any services more frequent than every 15/20 minutes so dropping trips can lead to a gap in service of at least 30 minutes. Not helped by the fact...

£2 per single bus journey and free travel for OAP’s probably helps!

Precisely, how can you risk travelling with Avanti from north Wales to/from London if your journey is essential or time critical. How many passengers have Avanti (and the railway as a whole) lost in north Wales over the past few years….?
