Southern would need an increase of 6 units for London Bridge to East Croydon /Coulsdon Town which are apparantly returning in december (maybe just peak times). We are also expecting Coastway west services to increase to 4 car (387s). Question is.. what other service increases are planned, and...
I think its quite clear they need to be leaning towards the centre ground to get into power.... im sure they have better intentions than the Tories currently do. It always has to be remembered around the time of the beeching report that Car was king and the railways were in a poor state...
On the same note.. theres no reason why Sprinter drivers say at York, couldnt also drive Azumas along the same route (after training). There are so many chances for cross cooperation if everything is put together....
Totally agree it hasnt all been bad...because it has created accountability..... but connectivity, money taken out of the industry, loss of skills have been big negatives.
I considered this recently. A few years back it was mooted that SE and southern metro services could become part of London Overground.... there was no way though that the Tory DfT would cooperate with a Labour mayor, so after the next election we could see the position change.
Safety has been one positive about Privatisation... (eventually after Hatfield and Ladbroke Grove!), because privatisation created a point of accountability.. a person to point the finger at, and a loss of profits as a result. Another is the replacement of slam door stock...
