Which routes used to be longer than they are now? (Excluding those which have a split number for EU rules).
In Kent / Sussex the 5 used to run Maidstone - Hastings, now cut back to Hawkhurst

The X5 used to run Oxford - Cambridge but now...
Some outer places like Bromley and Chingford are becoming more 'progressive' as inner Londoners move further out - both will probably go Labour at the GE. I do agree that ULEZ will be a factor in this election though.

Here in Southeastern land even some village stations have a decent coffee and croissant place in the morning - would be hard to get the same quality on a train. It would also lost money if you provided it 5 days per week due to flexible working.
You could argue it both ways. Dartford town could be in Greater London although the rest of its borough makes sense in Kent. Biggin Hill is free standing and could return to Kent although it would still be isolated from Westerham and Sevenoaks.

Urban regeneration is tricky to get right - on one hand there are probably more jobs in the area than in the 1990s but parts of KX do feel very sterile and corporate now. The area around Waterloo feels like it's going the same way.

Parking is generally easy in London suburbs because not everyone has a car. Most areas near stations will be resident permit only which might cost £30-60 a year.
