458501Which 458 moved up to Widnes last week please?
Thanks458501
Thank youYou are correct, Sir, 501 & 521 it is indeed.
458514 seen at Eastleigh heading to Bournemouth this morning.I take it that 458514 is the next unit for conversion. Can this be confirmed?https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:62317/2024-04-04/detailed#allox_id=0
69008 which was supposed to be on the 458 drag has instead made its way to Eastleigh east yard to form a class 701 drag.As this mornings loco move from Leicester has been cancelled (5z53) I assume this means the same for the drag as a whole?
Yes, the next move will be 458513 next Tuesday 16th April. As this mornings loco move from Leicester has been cancelled (5z53) I assume this means the same for the drag as a whole?
The move has not been cancelled as a whole now, the class 701 drag was cancelled so now 69008 is going to Bournemouth TRSMD to pick up 458514 for refurbishment. As this mornings loco move from Leicester has been cancelled (5z53) I assume this means the same for the drag as a whole?
Next unit to go should be 458513 next Tuesday.RE Post 2682 above: But that move seems to have been cancelled too, so nothing has happened except that 69008 has gone back to Leicester !!
How many 458/5s are in passenger service now?
Thanks for the update.It looks like yesterday was the final day in passenger service as a 458/5 for 458513, so I *think* the current status of the 458 fleet is now;

I welcome any corrections to errors that I may have made.
Hounslow loop and Weybridge via HounslowWhat routes? Windsor like discussed before?
Hopefully we will then finally get to see what the interior looks likeHounslow loop and Weybridge via Hounslow
The spoilt Reading line won’t be pleased, but seeing as they threw such a fit about 8 carriage trains, they wouldn’t want them anywayHounslow loop and Weybridge via Hounslow
Tongue in cheek I assume as the Reading line has been anything but spolit! A worse timetable and service now than 20 years ago after many years of being promised 4TPH. Not to mention the closures what feels like every weekend...The spoilt Reading line won’t be pleased, but seeing as they threw such a fit about 8 carriage trains, they wouldn’t want them anyway
I wonder if we’ll get our badly needed 12s back on the Alton line. I definitely prefer 10-444, but they’re not great for crowds.
I presume it'll allow a cascade of 450s back onto the readings until the 701s ever appear on that lineThe spoilt Reading line won’t be pleased, but seeing as they threw such a fit about 8 carriage trains, they wouldn’t want them anyway

Not now, certainly, but back in the days of slam door stock it was noticeable that the Reading line got CIGs when most outer suburban routes got VEPs! A 455 is a bit of a comedown from those days!Tongue in cheek I assume as the Reading line has been anything but spolit! A worse timetable and service now than 20 years ago
In pre-SWT days, certainly at least until the late 80s the Reading line was classed as main line. Now it's pretty much inner-suburban.Not now, certainly, but back in the days of slam door stock it was noticeable that the Reading line got CIGs when most outer suburban routes got VEPs! That was on the background of a pretty run down GWML which knocked a couple of HSTs in at random stations and otherwise the commuter was by an inadequate DMU. There’s now a wildly increased electric service which has drawn a lot of people onto it, and post covid apart from peaks, 2TPH is more than adequate. In pre-SWT days, certainly at least until the late 80s the Reading line was classed as main line. Indeed. It's also 2tph in the peaks. That was on the background of a pretty run down GWML which knocked a couple of HSTs in at random stations and otherwise the commuter was by an inadequate DMU. New carpets and seats and some new paint and branding here and there. Other than than, they are essentially the same as before.Hopefully we will then finally get to see what the interior looks like

Glad these are entering sergice as the situation is desperate. June still feels a long way off though, and if a training course is required (for these units that have been on these routes for 20+ years in some form or other....) then it will also delay the introduction of the 701's I assume.
