Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

he'd do it from his rolls royce, driving alongside the railway line. wouldn't want to risk mixing with the plebs on a train (even though he's closer to them than he likes to put on, having had to marry into the actual aristocracy)

Keir Starmer and the Labour Party

can't really work out why they took her in. With Poulter they could say he has the medical credentials and the only "baggage" is his voting record, but Elphicke is a world apart. I'm sure it temporarily looks good to take in the MP for Dover as a condemnation of how the Tories are handling the...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

as I understand it, if it doesn't come from Labour there is no obligation to actually bring it to a vote.

    Brexit matters

and the obsession with trying to rebuild the British Empire through rushed trade deals with former colonies has rather backfired somewhat, as it'll involve selling out some part of British industry. Australia/NZ is taking a swing at farming for example. When their journalists and politicians are...

    Upskirting Train Driver Avoids Prison

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

in terms of literal freedom of movement maybe, but I think the OP was pointing out the right to live and work - which the EU describes as "freedom of movement" 1714418088 although we will some differences as the new EU entry-exit system comes in, as Irish citizens won't have to subject...

Mobile Phone Coverage on Main Lines

and heaven forbid people try to work on the train, to make the money to pay for the expensive ticket

    Brexit matters

problem is we have no real way to do that. you can be a non-resident UK citizen, without EHIC or equivalent card from a non-EU country that we have an agreement with, and theoretically be ineligible for free healthcare. so it's not as simple as flashing the passport or having the right sounding...

    Fibre broadband router question

Virgin are the main outlier. Pretty much everyone else has a separate fibre box ("ONT"), usually wall mounted so the customer can't fiddle with it too much, that connects to the router. Virgin have taken a different route even in their newest fibre areas, where that conversion takes place inside...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

counterpoint - as one of his actual constituents I expect him to be on the MP gig full time. I'm okay with the odd shift here or there to stay registered but he appears to do rather more than that, and quite lucratively too (in my opinion MPs needing to meet a regulatory requirement should do so...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Truss is in Norfolk. The Rt Hon Dr Therese Coffey is the MP for Suffolk Coastal. Tom Hunt is the MP for the bulk of Ipswich. There's talk that he might become an advisor to Labour but I can't see that being worthwhile to him unless it comes with something else (eg a peerage). It's not as if...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

I'm one of his constituents. All I can say about him is that he has stayed out of the controversy that has engulfed both of his neighbours and of course MH over in the west of the county. Totally invisible in fact - only hear from him when its election time (or when he regurgitates the tory...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

even better still - this way you won't get on their mailing list. the MP "surveys" always have small print about agreeing to be included on their mailing list so I assume the same is true here (I seem to be the only person in the country who hasn't received one)

Is tradition holding the UK back?

So not at all comparable then. The US is a federal country with the states and territories (which don't have voting representatives anyway). There is a clear separation of powers. The feds can't legislate on state matters and vice versa. The District of Columbia is under direct rule by Congress...

Is tradition holding the UK back?

While we insist on having direct rule for England, that's not going to happen. If we had English devolution (preferably regionally) then you could slim it down in line with our peer countries. 400 would be an awfully arbitrary number otherwise, and I'm not sure we should determine...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

And that perhaps is where everyone's pinning it back to Sunak's wealth. As he keeps pointing out whenever he can, he is the son of a GP and a pharmacist. His top tier education helped him become obscenely wealthy in his own right and married into even greater wealth. There is zero chance he'll...

    Generational Smoking Bans

I think people are missing that it doesn't have to be 100% successful to work. OK, someone born from 2009 onwards might eventually be able to pass as older and not get ID'd. The hope is that they won't try, because they wouldn't have been able to buy them at a younger age and get addicted via...

Does scanning a ticket at a barricade make it invalid?

why not? paper tickets are readable by anyone, shouldn't e-tickets and ITSO also maintain readability? At least with ITSO there are apps to do so, some TOC apps even provide it, though you can't see anything not stored on the card (eg any notes that relate to a specific ticket). There are other...

    Broadband weather problems

the openreach FTTP network, which is what the OP is connected to, doesn't use cabinets and it is generally all underground up to the pole serving the home (in areas with overhead wiring). there are a few places where it couldn't be buried and so they use pole mounted green lumps to contain the...

    Broadband weather problems

Weather shouldn't really be a problem unless there's an underlying fault (eg water getting in somewhere) or where lightning might cause interference. Both are reasons to get full fibre if/when it becomes available to you.
