Train stopping short & doors been opened

You could argue that the competence management processes that TOC's use with Guards manage this kind of risk as well , Guards will have practical assessments with someone qualified to assess their competence that may pick up any deficiencies with the door operating procedure, there is also...

    Trainee Train Conductor

Not sure if they do at York but I know at some Northern depots they use an annual leave rotation as well , so every year the booked leave will be rotated to a different allocation . This means that it is fair/everyone gets a fair chance to have the popular weeks off . Even if there is a...

60 minutes, sometimes 45, help me understand.

As others have said , plenty of TOC's & FOC's will have been caught out in the past . Relocating whilst also completing your training be it at school or practical handling is likely to have an impact on your progress . And there is always the risk that even if you have the best will in the world...

    Progression from Driver

Depending on area some might move to other TOC's for either more pay or different work . There are progression opportunities available through the management structures , be it Driver Manager / Lead Driver Manager / Operations Manager / Head of x / etc . There are also safety/standards...

    Interview tips?

Which TOC is it for ? Youll probably find the interview split into two parts . The first part/questions will be a little but about yourself and what you know about the company and the role , so Id be researching if not already the routes the TOC operates over , you dont need in depth...

2 weeks E learning , 10 weeks in the classroom for IST , if you do absolute block IST and need to do the TCB conversion that is another 2 weeks . They usually run it straight after but have known people be delayed in attending it . So assuming you pass all of that first time that is 14 weeks ...

Congrats on the offer . Medicals are back in house now so it will be at an occupational health centre , not sure where the nearest to you is . My experience with them being run by optima was that you basically contacted them and organised the appointment yourself . Not sure how it'll be in...

Dont rush to hand your paper in if you finish before the time is up , if you get chance go back through and double check your answers . You don't get any extra marks for finishing early , but you might be able to get yourself a few extra by double checking . The big lists like reasons for...

To be fair that would also be a problem with traincrew , the TOC i used to work at would honour the swap even when someone was off sick or leave , either way you have a turn to cover . I think officially swaps were meant to be terminated if someone went onto long term sick and was off for more...

Well best of luck with it , the only thing worth mentioning regarding training venue is you do not get given a preference they just book you on a course wherever is available . As I said though , you get put up the whole way through school . I guess it can be a pain if you have family and are...

XC strike Sat 13th April OFF

Even when I worked in retail which is renowned for not treating employees well . Once the roster was posted the week before it couldn't be changed without asking people , we had managers suggest and even try and change it but nobody was ever disciplined for not coming in for a shift that the...

But they can and do send people wherever there is a place nationally . You will be accomodated, provided train tickets and if needed...

XC strike Sat 13th April OFF

Why would that be agreed to during a dispute by the grade/s in dispute ? Taking away arguments about undermining another unions dispute . Why should other grades experience such flexibility with their rostering agreements for a dispute they aren't involved in ? So basically Driver , because...

The only thing worth bearing in mind with 4 weekly pay is the payday gets earlier in the month as the year goes on so its not a set day/date every month . So next year for example the second Janurary payday is the 31st , and by December you get paid on the 5th .

Whilst relief signallers dont have sundays built into the roster , they do get first refusal on residents unwanted/unavailable sundays so still work sundays that come up . And being competent in more than one location obviously increases the potential for overtime being offered so most relief...
