Welsh Highland Railway or Ffestiniog Railway

All FR & WHR trains are booked for steam haulage nowadays, so it'll only be diesel-hauled if something's gone wrong! There's a special event on this weekend too, so a fair few extra vintage trains running on the Ffestiniog, as well as the launch of the new 'B-Set' - a brand new set of carriages...

    Sutton Coldfield Accident 1994

I presume so - but by 1994 the station had lost its bay platform, and didn't have any permissive working! Definitely something rather less serious than 1955 though!

    Sutton Coldfield Accident 1994

Hello, I came across this entry on the Railway Archive website - I've never heard about this crash but I'm wondering if anyone else does. The photo appears to show a 150 with some front-end damage... http://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/eventsummary.php?eventID=8888

Heritage Railway Extensions - thoughts (Deliberately split from similar thread)

There's certainly nothing stopping it being applied, but with no restrictions on what stock can be used (presumably Mk1s / First-Gen DMUs) there isn't so much need to split - and if both trains are loco hauled and timed to connect you potentially (though not necessarily) need a more complex (and...

Heritage Railway Extensions - thoughts (Deliberately split from similar thread)

The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways are, for the most part, operated with separate stock. Things are complicated because the Garratts and WHR carriages are too big to fit on the FR - whereas most FR locos aren't powerful enough alone to pull a full length train on the WHR. However, almost...

How to flag a train down at a request stop?

On the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland we have rather a lot... Bontnewydd, Dinas (though 99% of trains will stop), Tryfan Junction, Plas-y-Nant, Snowdon Ranger, Meillionen, Nantmor, Pont Croesor (again, 99% of trains will stop), Boston Lodge Halt, Penrhyn, Plas Halt, Dduallt and Tanygrisiau...

    Porthmadog Stations

The NR line runs to Porthmadog station, which is also near the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway's station (the 3/4 mile line with a shed tour). The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways (the longer narrow gauge ones) both run from Porthmadog Harbour station, which is the other end of the High...

How did they manage while Euston Station was being rebuilt?

There certainly was diversion on some level - as an example, services between Euston and Birmingham New Street were decimated for a few years, with an increase provided on the Paddington to Birmingham Snow Hill route instead (IIRC it went up to an hourly service) - a sort of Indian Summer for...

    Cambrian hourly service consultation

Is there any explanation for why 2J23 1900 Machynlleth to Pwllheli doesn't call at Penrhyndeudraeth or Minffordd? It seems to stop at all the non-request stops apart from these two, along with a few other lightly used stations along the coast... EDIT: Ah - it crosses 2G80, the 2012 Pwllheli to...

TOPS Requests (including headcodes, allocations, traction, etc) [Instructions in Post 2]

Would anyone be able to let me know which unit formed 2R49, the 1617 Four Oaks to Redditch yesterday (Tuesday 9th December)? Thanks!

    Aberystwyth question

This train then joins the train that arrives from Birmingham New Street at 0925, and forms a 4-car service on the 0930 to Birmingham International (which becomes 6-car after it joins a portion from Pwllheli at Machynlleth!). The diagrams for the units on the Cambrian Line are fairly complex...

    Tilting

Can answer your second question. Non-stop Pendolino timings for Stafford - Nuneaton appear to be 20 minutes, for example 1A21, the 0955 Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston. :)

    Cambrian hourly service consultation

1309 Birmingham International to Holyhead (centre unit to Shrewsbury, rear unit to Chester, front unit to Llandudno Junction, only unit to Holyhead) 1730 Holyhead to Shrewsbury 2014 then to Abbey Foregate Sidings at Shrewsbury is I believe the end of that diagram.

Porthmadog Harbour station: Trains return after £1.3m makeover

The last I heard was that Barmouth - Harlech should be reopening on 1st May, with Harlech - Pwllheli following in the 'very near future' so there's hope yet! The new station is very impressive, but feels slightly disorientating the first time you visit if you're familiar with the old one!
