    Eurostar Drivers

As far as I'm aware the last two comments are spot on, fluent french is a must for comms with signallers 'South of le tunnel' and 5 years of high speed passenger train driving experience.

What's your favourite DMU, EMU or DEMU?

DMU: 158's will always take top spot for me, great units. DEMU: Class 221's - Yes I'm being serious. EMU: The 390's are impressive but the 373 has taken it by a nose, still a 'modern' train 20 years on. Just the best.

East Coast franchise discussion (Previously: Rumour VT/Stagecoach to win)

Well whoever it ends up in the hands of im just hoping they do a decent job, as well as EC has done over the last 5 years or so in my opinion. SNCF seem a pretty determined railway company in my (albeit limited) experience of French railways I hope they do the same for the ECML.

East Coast franchise discussion (Previously: Rumour VT/Stagecoach to win)

I hope a new 'unseen' company get it making sure it sticks close to the current 'operators' efforts as in my opinion they have done very well in getting EC back to its best after the GNER leaving/National Express mess. I'd be surprised if one of the 'big' companies doesn't get it though...

East Coast franchise discussion (Previously: Rumour VT/Stagecoach to win)

Definitely not. Unless Boots or Waitrose are the new EC franchise bidders :D

    Filthy Eurostar trains

I think it's fair to say we all agree that the new livery and branding along with the newly designed interiors are well needed and will hopefully propel Eurostar to being the premier rail travel the UK has to offer. I do agree it's long needed and maybe the cleanliness has slipped in recent...

Tyne Yard....its current use and future.

Thanks Mark. I did notice some works trains and they're heading out at night off down the sunderland line either to Tyne Dock or Hartlepool perhaps?

    Hypothetical railway lottery win

Wow! What a small world. I actually live in Kibblesworth now and have done most of my life, my own grandfather working at the pit, maybe PM me with your grandfathers name I'll see if mine knew him, sorry to hear he's passed. Yeah I love both Tanfield and Beamish, but I agree Tanfield is in...

    Hypothetical railway lottery win

That's my thinking. There's nothing really round this area that caters for Rail fans, probably NRM at York or NYMR as 'big' attractions. I live close to Beamish and Tanfield Railway which are great but I'd expect the area from which the Grandfather of the railways grew up to celebrate railways a...

    Hypothetical railway lottery win

Believe it or not it's not as daft as it sounds. I have plans actually drawn up and I'm being pushed by some 'friends' of mine to submit my ideas to local council and potential investors. It was just a daft idea of mine but some think it has legs! We'll see!

Tyne Yard....its current use and future.

Hi there, Recently whilst passing Tyne Yard, I have noticed a lot more 'action' going on in the south end of the yard. I know by living near and using it as a great spot to photograph the ECML that recently it has been upgraded in the scope of security gates going up, I was just wondering...

    Hypothetical railway lottery win

A new high speed rail link from GLC - EDB - NCL - YRK - PBO - KGX/SPX and link with Eurotunnel to Europe bringing ICE/TGV/E*/AGV compatibility and running and also develop the 'Mercury Train' concept as the main traction for this line and have the UK be leaders in railway innovation and...

The King Across The Water (Labour Leadership)

Good point, maybe it's part of the selection process for MP's?

The King Across The Water (Labour Leadership)

I just look at him and think how do I vote for him...he looks and talks like a complete Pratt. I hope Labour come back into power but have a substitution for Party Leader before they do.

    Spotting in London

St Pancras has plenty of places in and around the station for eating, however it's not got a brilliant spot for seeing the 395's and Eurostars unless you're actually using the train and going through the barriers, enter the station from the Pancras Road side and up the escalator or lift for the...

    Paris Gare du Nord

Well I braved not only Gare du Nord but a few of the RER stations whilst there and managed to get a few shots of E*s, TGV and Thalys plus a few loco hauled shots too. Mind you I was quick!. On arriving at Gare du Nord we exited our Eurostar (I went with my girlfriend) and headed towards the taxi...

    Paris Gare du Nord

Thanks for all the replies guys, so pleased I asked as id always think of a major station like that well policed and pretty safe. Sounds like a trip to Gare du Lyon might be in order instead. It's TGV's I'm interested in seeing most of all however any 'foreign' train/loco would also interest me...

    Paris Gare du Nord

Hi everyone, Making my first official Eurostar trip to Paris tomorrow and will be in Paris Gare du Nord around lunchtime, wonder if anyone could give me tips on the best place to position myself to maximise photo opportunities? Thanks in advance.

seasoned drivers.... clear something up please

Take your time with OT just break yourself in gently, don't just chase the £££'s as how are you supposed to earn your bit when you've been sacked for falling asleep at the controls or the likes because you're not taking your R/D's. It's all a balancing act really.
