DB Schenker or apply direct??

Morning all, long time reader first time poster.

I'm coming to the point where I can apply for trainee train driver positions again after not getting through with London Overground which I was pretty confident of passing . I'm looking to seriously apply after May as I'm having an operation which will keep me out of action for a month.

What I would like to know is whether anyone has done the DB Schenker assessment and whether they thought it was worth it/got a job after passing it. I have no qualms with paying £150 for it but if it does not appear worth it then it is a lot of money to waste.

Or should I just wait for an opening at a TOC and just apply direct???

Have wanted to be a train driver for a long time now and with one shot left I need to get this right, especially as I know I could do the job.. So any help is welcome!!

I'm doing it as much as anything to prep me for going with the TOC when vacancies arise also if I make a complete #?!*!? Of it! I know I'm not cut out and will have a lot more respect than I already do for train drivers each to their own and YES I am desperate to be a train driver and hoping it might give me an edge

I think this counts as your final "shot". Having been in the same situation, I invested in books and a BopIt and downloaded the Group Bourdon test and just kept working really hard on it. Far cheaper, got me through and personally I can't see how going with DBS would stand you in any better stead. Fingers crossed for you though.

It's worth doing the test privately if you're struggling to get through to that stage in the recruitment process, or if you expect that you'll struggle because of a lack of relevant experience. It's a great thing to stick on a covering letter for a speculative application.

Of course, it's only worth doing it privately if you pass it.

I did mine at CCL rail training in Crewe. They were good. More than seven years ago, mind - tempus fugit.
