To answer the OP - No, the other three seats are no-shows and will be available for other passengers. Any luggage on the seats will count as an obstruction and the traincrew have the right (or even duty) to move it to allow other passengers to sit down.

This is a situation that always seems to occur on Sunday afternoon trains into London - I've never had it with four, but often with two and a suitcase. It's always been resolved, sometimes with the threat of moving the luggage onto the nearest platform. Most times my name is taken with a threat to have my job or similar, but I've never had a "please explain" over it, so management either approve of my actions, or the complaints have not actually been sent in.

I'm sure this was discussed on a thread not so long ago.

If there's a no show, like when there was four no shows on a table in coach D on a lightly loaded voyager from GLC - BHM, I will take the seats and I'm sure most others would too

Its also worth remembering that reservations left unused "expire" at the first calling point after the origin of the reservation.

This is reminiscent of the "Why should I even bother to give up my Priority seat to someone who clearly needs it more than me" thread.

Make dinner or change nappies in the middle of a busy coach?

What?

Wouldn't surprise me if someone were to change a nappy on a table. A lot of people seem to think just because they have a brat with them, they can do what they want and when they want.

I love children (not)

On my trains, if the stop has been passed and there is no bum on the seat, the reservations are pulled out. Works for me.

And where exactly do you suggest a parent should change their child's nappy? There is not always room in the toilets, they are often occupied or out of order. What is the problem with changing a nappy on a table? What exactly do you think you are going to catch from this?

Well, lots of diseases are transmitted by the faecal-oral route, including the slim possibility of polio if the child has been recently given a polio vaccine, but the main ones are here

Yes, seen this on a Cross Country between Reading and Birmingham (in Mk 2 days). Found it nausiating then frankly. Procreating is no excuse to cover everything with baby crap as far as I'm concerned.

You ever changed a nappy? Do you think you smear fecal matter everywhere then go about your business? What do you think portable change mats are for?

I'd be a lot more worried about the oiks that do not wash there hands when they go to the toilet than the caring parent who sometimes has no option but to use whatever space is available.

I've made a large sandwich on a table before, which given the time of day was technically dinner...

I like that, very funny :D

I've changed more nappies than you, I'll bet, and I know from bitter experience sometimes everything does go everywhere.

Do you change your baby's nappies on your kitchen table, change mat or no? If you do, it's not a good idea, read the link in my post again.

I've been the only pax at a table a fair few times (mostly in FC). Every once in a while someone will sit directly opposite you rather than diagonally and open a laptop. No manners.

Then sit at an airline seat!

It is just one of those theoretical questions which arose when a group of four of us were booked on a particular train. The one who had the tickets made it but the rest of us were delayed and missed the train. He mentioned that at least he had the table reserved to himself. It just had me wondering if someone did want to reserve the table, say to do some work, or make dinner, or change nappies or whatever - and had paid for all four seats would that entitle them to keep the table to themsleves ?

Quite surely one of the funniest, stupid and idiotic things I've read here, making dinner and changing nappies at a table...

I dont think anybody in there right would get a babies arse out in a carriage for all to see, there is toilets after all, I would find it uncomfortable if someone was near me cleaning a babys ****ty, smelly arse, that is just plain wrong

It's worth remembering that someone made this up and everytime this has come up I have asked for proof and so far, no-one has shown that it is actually written down in any official document

Don't have any then, the world would probably be a better place. I wonder if your parents thought the same.

I've made a large sandwich on a table before, which given the time of day was technically dinner...

I've done both but not at the same time nor on the same journey.

Most parents quickly become pretty adept at changing nappies without getting cr@p on themselves let alone their surroundings.

Made more of a mess making a ham salad baguette with mayonnaise to be honest. Crumbs everywhere. I stick to sliced loafs now.

Didn't have a single complaint either time.

So that was you then .... and, to think, I accused the oik sitting there when I returned from the buffet of removing the label.

I, of course, could not leave a jacket on the seat as 'unattended items will be removed and may be destroyed by the security services'

Somehow I don't think it is very pleasant for those people who maybe having a spot of lunch on the train; I certainly wouldn't want to see a baby's back passage whilst eating my Uppercrust panini!

No manners from whom, you, presumably, for thinking nobody should sit opposite you?

Only if the jacket is ticking ;). I do usually ask anybody sitting beside or across from the seat if it's empty before removing the label. The most common response I get is "Oh, thatt's my seat!".

Like it !

I have often noticed that if you sit in an 'unclaimed' airline window seat after persuading the person in the aisle seat to reluctantly let you past, they somehow always seem to get off at the station to which the unclaimed seat was reserved and the 'reservee' never appears.

People can't join later with an advance ticket, but what if they had reserved a seat with an open ticket and circumstances saw them joining the train later on?

All I can say is I haven't had that yet. Something could be sorted.
