A rather unusual vending machine!

I was at Chesterfield station this evening waiting for a train and it seems someone has FINALLY come up with a solution to that common problem of getting to the train station and suddenly remembering you forgot to buy some milk

Surely this won't take off? The milk looks fresh so would need changing every week or so!

and if it's like most vending machines on stations someone will have left their change in it not realising that they give change. (I've got 50p out of the vending machines at leicester on more than one occasion ;))

There used to be a huge vending machine selling milk and all sorts at the Saino's in Hazel Grove - unfortunately it was removed a few years ago.

That is very similar to one we saw opposite the station at Hasselt in Belgium a few years ago, probably about the same time as the date on that article. It had everthing from bottles of wine and boxes of washing powder to chocolate bars and condoms!

There used to be one at Cambridge station (I think it was on platform 4?) that served a portion of chips. I don't think it is there any more.

For a few years in the early 1960s, milk machines were a fairly frequent sight in some towns. They also sold cartons of orange juice.

I remember those!

Can't remember where it was but in desperation I tried one once. Only once...

Thats milk straight from the farm.

I know the chap who owns it, and has been doing it a couple of years now. Has 3 at the end of his drive for milk, and some for eggs, cakes, and potatoes.

I remember at one point, Cambridge station had a chip vending machine - yes, chips as in french fries, not crisps. I don't think it really took off as it was gone after a year or so.

60p for 1 pint isn't bad considering it's 49p in most supermarkets.

There was one at Luton too. It was the microwave chips fries to go

Used to be a common feature of nearly every manned station back in the 60s 70s.
Yes, in cardboard cartons at a reasonable price. Nowadays most machines only seem to want to sell branded name fizzy drinks with too much sugar, or expensive bottled water.

Quite common on major stations to about 1970 I think - they were big and pale blue in colour. The milk was better than the orange juice!

We used to have something similar at work. Had small cartons of milk, cereal, filled rolls, fruit, soup, sometimes a mini fry up.

I think the dispensing of condoms is a great idea.
