Probably depends on when the next round of Green Bus funding is. I understand there is still a big difference between a Hybrid and Diesel in purchase cost.

Has anyone bought Hybrids without funding?

The only operator I know that has bought them without funding was Abellio London for Tfl route 3, they bought a fleet of ADL E400H

Weren't the original batch of gas buses delivered to Reading Buses also purchased without money from the GBF?

I think they specify ADL chassis for purely urban work and Scania for routes with longer runs in them.

Correct - the Trident chassis is generally used for urban work whereas the Scania is better for belting up and down dual-carriageways on interurban work.

The oldest Enviro 400s I see in Manchester are on 56 plates - I use at least three a day.
I notice there aren't any hybrids in the order and I'm slightly puzzled: Stagecoach Manchester have only been buying hybrid deckers for the past two or three years, converting their routes one by one. They have got some non-hybrid ones in that time, but they were cascaded ones from London 2012 duties. I think they're the Euro6 ones, actually - slightly longer and they sound different.
Anyway - I do have to wonder what the new Euro6 ones will be replacing: I don't have a clue what it could be. I hope they have seats as comfy as the hybrids though!

Any order for them will be announced when the Green Bus funding is awarded.

Here is the Scottish Green Bus Fund Award:-

Stagecoach orders new hybrid vehicles for Tayside

27 Mar 2014

• Transport group places £5.2million order for 18 new hybrid buses
• Scottish Government Green Bus Fund to contribute around £1.4million
• Stagecoach now has around 300 greener buses in operation across UK

Stagecoach Group today (Thursday 27 March 2014) announced that it has ordered a £5.2million fleet of hybrid buses for its Tayside operations.

The order – for 18 Volvo B5LH ADL bodied hybrids – represents a Stagecoach investment of around £3.8million with a further £1.4million coming from the Scottish Government’s Green Bus Fund.

The new vehicles – which produce up to 30% less emissions than standard vehicles - will go into service in Tayside on the Tayway 73 service which links Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Broughty Ferry and Arbroath.

Stagecoach Group is a leading investor in greener buses with around 300 hybrid vehicles and gas buses now in operation at its companies across the UK. Stagecoach East Scotland already operates a fleet of nine hybrid vehicles in Perth.

Stagecoach West Scotland has a fleet of nine vehicles which run on 100% biofuel and Stagecoach North Scotland operates 13 hybrid vehicles in Aberdeen and, along with local partners, is to play a key role in the introduction of 10 hydrogen-powered buses in Aberdeen this year.

Stagecoach UK Bus Regional Director for Scotland Sam Greer said: “We are a leading investor in hybrid vehicles across Scotland and the UK and we're pleased to be introducing these new vehicles for passengers in Tayside. Sustainability is at the heart of our business and we believe that, by investing in new cleaner, greener vehicles we can continue to attract more people on to our bus services to help reduce pollution and congestion in our towns and cities."

Announcing the green bus funding, Transport Minister Keith Brown said: “I would like to congratulate the successful bidders of this year’s Scottish Green Bus Fund which encourages the purchase of low carbon vehicles.

“The Scottish Government is committed to public transport and to our ambitious climate change target of reducing carbon emissions by 42 per cent by 2020.

“This fund is helping our bus industry invest in the latest emission reducing technology and is another clear indication of our support and commitment to the bus industry in Scotland.

“Low carbon transport benefits us all through an improved environment and a strong public transport network plays a part in this, as well as cutting congestion on the roads and making them safer for all users.”

Stagecoach earlier this month unveiled record orders worth over £100million for nearly 570 new greener buses and coaches. The Group has placed £545m of orders for new buses and coaches for its regional bus operations in the UK in the last seven years. It has also ordered more than £100million of new vehicles for its London bus operations since buying the business in 2010. Most new buses and coaches are produced in the UK, helping support hundreds of British manufacturing jobs.

I bet you none of this order is going to Perth. It appears they would rather cascade ex Oly's from Fife....

Reports elsewhere suggest otherwise, as the first 5 buses to be delivered from this order (5 ADL/E200s) have gone to Perth!

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
Got to agree with Garry that Perths rather crying out for stuff so thats good. its interesting that SC have gone for the B5H On the latest order, I wonder, I wonder why? im not well aquainted with the route but Id guess the stretch to Arbroath involves faster running? If so do these vehicles perhaps have a higher top speed?

Are Hybrid's not limited to 44mph? I know that the Goldie E350h's that Perth have for the 7 are definitely limited...Maybe the B5H's aren't limited but who knows...

Can't speak definitively, but I do wonder if the B5LHs for Scotland are re-allocated examples that were originally due for London. (The London order has been downsized from 62 to 32.)

Giving hints - well lets just say, if it was cream, it'd be very good at pouring!

No, they've not been reallocated, but secured through the latest round of the Scottish Green Bus Fund.
London orders are largely related to tender gains/losses, so quite often are not included within the main Group orders.

But the award of GBF monies is dependent on an outline order being in place.

The London order was for 62 units as I said before, but 30 of them were cancelled in favour of E400Hs.
I just can't help wondering if some of the chassis had to be taken because of restrictions (presumably from Volvo) with regard to downsizing of the original London order. (Either they'd already been built, or Volvo didn't want to take the financial hit, for example.) I do feel that the ADL bodying of it is more a case of Stagecoach going "we've got these chassis, any chance you can body them? Then at least they're a bit more standard than a full Wright product?"

Probably completely wrong, but there's nothing wrong with wandering...

Some errors in amongst that lot, but suppose that's to be expected. I understand all the vehicles are allocated, so presumably those shown as unallocated are simply where BBP didn't have the information.

Where allocations are not shown I assume that information was not available at time of publication deadline. Errors could be either due to late changes or wrong information from sources. Perhaps this thread is a good place for corrections!?

E300s for Stockton - add 27172-81 to the Stockton allocation, 25 are due for the depot for the flagship services 36 (where they replace the higher capacity MAN E300s) 37 and 38.

That list doesn't seem to include any vehicles for either Chester or Rock Ferry depots. I'd assume that any fleet updates on the Wirral & around Chester would be stuff moved on from depots that are receiving new vehicles?

I admit to not knowing all Stagecoach fleet numbers. What confuses me a bit is the numbering of E200s. I know some 36400 numbers came to Greater Manchester in 2011/12, and some 36500 numbers to London in 2013. However, next thing I knew some early 37000s came to Stockport around Christmas! I think I spotted some 36900s in Newport. So I wonder where these 36600s, 36700s and 36800s are, if indeed they exist?

More of the dam things? I hope not, given that all we seem to have been getting here for the past 4 years are either Enviro 200 Darts or Alexander 200 Drats (with exception of several Enviro 300s - Which wouldn't have been too bad had they not put them with the modern 'DP' style seats on routes which saw them damaged or are too narrow for them resulting in the nearside mirror swinging around and smashing the door). I wonder when that list was produced though, given that Stagecoach has recently taken over from Courtney Buses on the Centre Shuttle P&R - and are promised new vehicles in the rather gaudy Purple & Lime for this service!

Seems to be some confusion over the number of Volvo B11R/Plaxton Elite-i
Press statement states 8 (detailed as 54231-54238 for Aberhill) but list shows additional 17 54239-54255 unallocated?
Press statement lists 28 Scania/Enviro 300 (detailed as 28681-28708 unallocated) but then adds another 4 (detailed as 28709-28712 for Cwmbran) ?

Oddities/mistakes aside, there are going to be a large number of Dart SLF/Pointers cascaded, looks like the whole fleet at Carlisle is being replaced, ditto Grimsby, plus a sizeable number at Peterborough unless of course '04, '05 & '56 reg vehicles are so 'hammered' they are only fit for scrap (which seems very unlikely).
