Does anyone know if 317722 and 317729 have returned from storage and are working at the moment. Just seen 317709 and 317719 working out of Liverpool Street this week. There were rumours that some may be loaned to Hornsey to work off Kings Cross. Does anyone know if this has happened.

All 317/7s are now at Ilford EMU depot. 317709 and 317719 are now part of GA's general 317 pool to cover for 379s undergoing tests. 317722 is still at Ilford because it's regenerative braking keeps overloading the OHLE, but will join GA's 317 fleet when it finally works. FCC is likely to lease up to 4 of them (2 diagrams operated by pairs of units) to cover for 365s undergoing refurbishment.

2 diagrams with 4 Class 317/7s covering FCC's Class 365 refurbishment programme? I'm sorry but that's quite incorrect as there's only 1 diagram they be on with no more than 3 Class 317/7s being used as they're being being used as a 8 car set with a possible third as a standby spare.

I know there's only one diagram because there's only mention of one diagram in the unit workings booklet ar work for the May 2014 timetable.

In fact if you search this site, I have posted the workings when they finally get to Hornsey....

317729 hasn't turned a wheel. 317722 has been out on driver training trips, and will be seen in passenger service soon...

Isn't the diagram the 317/7s are going to work currently a 321 diagram? In which case, are these moving to cover a 365 diagram. It's just that I seem to remember the 1650 and 2023 departures from King's Cross being 321s.

No you're not going mad, FCC were meant to be getting two Class 317/7s in passenger service at the start of the May 2014 timetable but for various reasons they have yet to arrive

They also work a peak Letchworth service too ;)

Sorry, I was doing it from memory and was tired at the time. Evidently I made a mistake. Not sure if I am misinterpreting but your tone seems a little unfriendly. Cheers for the correction though :)

as stated 722 is just waiting for drivers to be trained on it and then it'll be out and about on the WA side.

Should be in passenger service from Monday. There's a move planned over the weekend to get it to Stortford, for it to pick up Bishops Stortford-Stratford services from Monday.

I have heard mutterings that GA are also taking on 317732, bringing the fleet of /7s up to 4! :P

It was a misinterpretation, I simply wanted to point out the mistake and offer advice on where the diagram information could be found.

According to Hornsey they are now due over mid-late July.

Did 317722 make it onto Bishops Stortford - Stratford's today, and if so could it be on them all week ?

Pictures I've seen on Facebook suggest 317722 is out in service on Bishops Stortford-Stratford runs today.

Any ideas if this will be in passenger service soon? Wonder how successful it'll be!

About darn time too! I had forgot that some 317/7s were coming back into use (or is it all of them?), which is great news as I've only had 714 and 732 from that batch (from their Stansted Express days :D), and I'd given up on ever finishing the /7s off!

I like the idea of 317s on peak trains out of t'Cross, but to get them in I'll need an Anytime Travelcard so it'll cost a fair bit!

Currently, as far as I know, GA have 3 317/7s in use (317709, 317719, 31722) with another one (317732) soon to be in use. It rerally is good to see them back where they belong, on the West Anglia. Does anyone know if GA are keeping them long term? I have heard mutterings that LOROL will get all the 317/5s and 317/8s when they take over from GA on the suburban lines. Does this mean GA will get all of the 317/7s back and use them with the 317/6s and 379s on the outer WA trains?

Ahh ok, thanks very much :) Will FCC be taking 2 or 3 units then do you know?

729 and another one are almost ready, just need interiors put back in

Why was the interior ever taken out? As it is being done up, I assume this is one of the ones FCC will take.

It was in passenger service today. Found some pictures online here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/stanstedtransportphotos/

Wow, looks great! Am I correct in thinking that only one of the vehicles (The refurbed DTSO) has any kind of branding on it? It is a shame that only half the unit has been repainted but it is certainly good to see a 317/7 (partially) in GA colours. Do you know if the refurbished cars still have the idiotic powered inward-opening gangway doors between carriages?

*Update Time*

Been confirmed that 317729 was meant to leave Ilford for Hornsey tonight however a catalogue of faults has meant that this has been cancelled and as such won't be leaving Ilford anytime soon as it's basically knackered.

However all is not lost as 317708 is meant to leave Ilford for Hornsey on the 11th July so fingers cross they might bring them across together IF they can fix 317729......

Also FCC were in line to get 3 Class 317/7s but plans change and now they're only getting 2 Class 317/7s.

That's interesting, do you know how many 317s that would mean LOROL taking? Not sure how many of each subclasses make up their fleet! What would happen to the 317s once LOROL order new stock do you think? Any official word on if this is confirmed?

I know what you mean though, it's a shame only half has been refurbished, I guess it's to make a comparison but strikes me as being "on the cheap" and riddled with problems. But I guess that's what a demonstrator is!

Looking forward to driving it next year, hopefully it's still around!

Nothing is officially confirmed yet, but I have been told that it is likely. This would mean LOROL get 27 317s, 15 /5s and 12 /8s. I imagine they will get a 317722 refurb and go up north when LOROL replace them. The demonstrator could have been really good like 321448 is, but they literally did a half job, and metaphorically did a half job on the half they did refurbish. They left the hopper windows in despite 317/7s already having A/C, they left in the stupid inward-opening powered gangway doors between carriages that have NEVER worked properly, and it really would not have killed them to at least repaint the whole thing and put on some more AGA stickers.....

Good luck driving it! Must be a lovely job to have :D

Well it was touched by who else but Bombardier!

In all seriousness though I do agree with you - the whole project seemed promising but appears to have fizzled down into what almost appears to be a half hearted effort - Promising something almost akin to the SWT 455s and delivering the half hearted Bombardier effort with a few 377/6 seats chucked into a half refurbished interior, and two coaches externally relivieried. As for keeping the hopper windows - as you point out the Eversholt / Wabtec project shows what can be made good of the BR Mk3 units and as for keeping the stupid rarely working inward-opening powered gangway doors between carriages just shows of a well this train could have been this but well. Huff.

However, I wonder how the new AC Traction equipment Bombardier were making such a fanfare about is coping? Still surprised at the obvious retention of the original GEC traction motors though.
