The agreed sale price of a business is adjusted by a number of financial factors which could include how much profit has been made. New trainee drivers won't be earning any profit for many months, so will reduce profit in the short term. Therefore I would be surprised if any more trainee drivers are employed until the business has been sold and new owners have decided if they need more trainees. However, I probably be completely wrong!

Sorry Biff, but if only it was that simple. If freightliner are changing hands, and that's all it is, it will have been months if not years in the planning and I doubt very much it's had any impact on the contracts they are trying to win or the drivers they are training. I hope it means the company I want to work for is stronger and better positioned in the freight market. Maybe the new owners will release enough capital to enable telling candidates whether they have been successful through the last recruitment process. Who knows?

I heard that they're just holding on till the sale is sorted out, but like everything else...just rumours so wouldn't worry. ( I work for freightliner already) in

thanks for that.

Enjoy it much? silly question really, i've never asked a railwayman that and got a genuine and instant 'nope'.

Ask if there's things that wreck the job the answers always yes, ask if they'd fancy something else it's always no :)

Happy medium really

Hi Scott, I believe you work with my dad! :p

If we both get on you fancy car sharing to/from crewe for the training :D

Have you applied for Ferrybridge / York / Leeds etc like me?

p.s. good luck

It was, but it's fairly generic comment, so you don't have to be a driver/guard/signaller etc.

It's an industry where everyone seems broadly content once settled (even if day to day running is rough).

Ey up daz, yeah I work at same place as your dad, he had mentioned you were in the same situation as me. And yeah said I'd work at all the usual depots round here.

And yeah if we're lucky enough to get on then a car share would make sence.

Good luck.

I just can't believe how many TOCs and FOCs treat future candidates the way they do. Yes so many apply so they can pick and choose but the recruitment process is horrendous! "Talent pools" are the favourite word of the day. Before anyone jumps on me and says companies read these forums, I really don't care... I've passed my assessments, i've got through an interview with 2 different companies and a medical with the other and still no job! People who have come after me have started and still nothing... Hey Ho it all comes down to the depot you choose, oh silly me for choosing one of the advertised locations and seeing several candidates be offered a location which was never advertised! This industry must be run by Alan Sugar! You're not fired, you're never hired!

if the recruitment process frustrates u mate u will probably be tearing your hair out once u start.......it is what it is and all the moaning in the world won't change it as it's been the same for years.

at the end of the day you've passed everything and are waiting for the nod for a position that thousands want but very few get!.......don't be frustrated be happy!.......one of the key qualities for train drivers (especially freight who are sat at signals as much as they are moving) is patience!

and not being funny chap but if i were you i would care!......It'd be a shame if a job offer/start date was pulled over something so trivial!......and it HAS happened!

Hi, I'm lodging in crewe from jan 5th as well. I'm led to believe we will be lodging at the best western railway arms opposite crewe station. It's just had a massive refurb and full gym fitted. Spoke to hr today and we should recieve letters shortly. Can't wait to start now.

Hi
Has everyone who is enrolled in the march intake already being told and offered jobs? I was one placed into a talent pool after interview and haven't heard anything or being offered a medical. Well done to anyone that is lucky enough to get on.

I know it full because I work for Freightliner, and I'm a graduate driver, I was told by management that it was full.

Cheers for that James. It appears that nobody on here has heard any news for the march intake, so hopefully they are using people out of the talent pool that were unsuccessful for the January start. You would have thought by coincidence that at least one person on here would have found out by now if they were going to start in march. All depends on the size of the pool I suppose.
