A poster on northernrailways notes that 406 and 414 are now painted.

funnily enough, I saw 414 yesterday bombing along to Lincoln, shiniest I've ever seen a sprinter!
Thanks for 406, I also think 401 is in the paintshop, haven't seen it for ages, and I used to see it daily.

For 158xxx at Donny, read 159xxx.

Latest news is the 158's may NOT be going to Wabtec. Apparently another company is the preferred bidder for the work, which may be carried out at Derby.
I do hope EMT are not going to settle for shoddy workmanship in order to save a few pennies.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but havn't Wabtec a proven track record on refurbing 158's? I don't know whether or not this other firm has done any.

I think if anyone has been on a SWT 158/9 they will testify to the standard of work. I know some people don't like the units, but they look like they were built and designed last year!!! An amazing refurb/refresh/rebirth!!

according to Rail magazine, Tim Shoveller and the team are having words with Wabtec, and want the EMT 158s to be done to a similar specification of SWT ones (bar 1st class seats, which shall not be erected) but no contract has yet been signed.

Also, 153355 has already been attacked with graffiti (presumably at Eastcroft in Nottingham?) and buffing it off has made it look like a mobile scrapheap. All the EMT branding vynils have disappeared, and it basically looks like someones chucked hydrochloric acid all over it  cheap trashy vynils!

Latest news is it's a firm called "Delta" who are preferred bidders for the 158 refurbs, work to be carried out at Derby RTC.

Anyone know anything about Delta? who they are, what they do, quality of work?

I must emphasise that to the best of my knowledge nothing has been signed and sealed as yet, so Wabtec may well still get the contract.

Think this might be of interest.

Also read on and saw...

"At DeltaRail we are realigning our business to better position ourselves for the new opportunities presented by the continuing growth of the railways and to meet the needs of a changing rail industry."

Hmmmm, interesting, and it looks ok on paper, but EMT will i fear be Guinea Pigs when it comes to refurbishing 158's to the standard and quality specified. It'll either be spectacular triumph, or a spectacular failure, and is such a gamble advisable when you think that the current 158 fleet is in such a shocking state? At least Wabtec have a proven track record.

Thanks for the link.

the ex CT and TPX 158s need the most attention. I also think that all the super bubbles could do with a new interior.

I think the swoopy front looks smart but I do wonder about the transition to white. The use of blue rather than white is obviously because of the dirt that accumulates on these things, but it does on the coaches too. In a few weeks on service they could be very grubby looking.

ah, right updated - thanks very much to all who have helped with this database. Also, those 2 you saw going through LS, are they exFGW ones off-lease? cos we're supposed to be getting a few more.
