Matters will soon be moving on and I wonder if there are known plans for the type of usage for this depot or for any expansion.

Mods....unsure where to post this new thread, so move it if you feel, please.

It would seem like a no-brainer to that when Man Vic -Stalybridge was electrified they electrified to Newton Heath too.

Not convinced to be honest.

If as has been suggested elsewhere (link below) that Northern get more 319s they will probably be maintained at Allerton - so fewer DMUs likely to be maintained there. So perhaps they would go to Newton Heath.
DMU / EMU Possible Count

How many Pacers does Newton Heath maintain currently? So there is possibly some scope there.

185s to remain at Ardwick, and the new Civity trains will probably have their own facility, in common with most post privatisation fleets.

Are you suggesting, that with Pacers withdrawn, 319s at Allerton, 185s at Ardwick, some use of Springs Branch that there is a case for closing Newton Heath?

No, suggesting newer DMUs to go there eg 170s.

Don't know if it still the case, but it used to be a major servicing depot for taxis on night shift.

Perhaps they will expand into day shifts as well.

There will still be plenty of Sprinters in the Manchester area for years to come, so I doubt Newton Heath will be short of work. Indeed with the 319s based at Allerton I'd expect some light servicing (emptying CET tanks for example) might be done in Manchester, so NH seems as good a place as any.
