Absolutely not good news. With the exception of First, they're the only operator of note in the southern part of Pembrokeshire. I've only visited the area as a tourist, but no doubt their services are a lifeline to many communities.

Three times larger than First in terms of service buses (depending on where you draw the boundary for counting), even larger once coach operations are taken into account.

An opportunity for someone.

Or another example of cuts to subsidised services and reductions to pensioner pass re-imbursement rates driving a long established operator to the wall?

At least, in this case, there are plans for the company to continue trading in administration, similar to that of BHS. That might indicate that, at the moment, there are sufficient funds to allow continued operation, but for how long, is another matter.

Ah, Silcox! A legend in my family, owing to one of their double deck buses reversing into our family car near Haverfordwest on the first day of our holiday. Around 1958, I think! The irony of it was that my grandmother hailed from Pembrokeshire and we were visiting her family, who ran the Saies drapery store in Haverfordwest.

They aren't actually in administration yet, as per the article they intend filing unless a buyer is found imminently.
It's almost a for sale advert!

Could First be interested in the area?

Possibly!

they have done good jobs in picking up the bits when webberbus and western greyhound have gone maybe same could happen in wales.

True, very true.

Three times larger than First in terms of service buses

Could First, handle such a challenge?, then again would the CMA allow it?, and if Stagecoach were to move-in, would First just roll-over and move-out?

What usually happens is a new streamlined company is formed e.g. Silcox Buses 2016 Limited. Some of the assets will be transferred to that new company to create a hopefully profitable business which will then be sold on, while the existing company will be liquidated. The lucky drivers will be TUPEd across while others will be laid off and may not even get paid for their notice period.

Hi there

It was as reported to me but agree that sounds rather more plausible! You're doubtless right

Looks like it is in fact Edwards of Llantwit Fardre, Pontypridd. Tenby and Haverfordwest are a fair distance off their patch...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-36433432

"Based in Pontypridd, Edwards Coaches is the largest family owned coach-company in the country employing over 500 staff and operating 260 vehicles.
Its managing director Mike Edwards confirmed all former Silcox home-to-school transport routes will be operated by Edwards when school term resumes on Monday, 6 June"

Some say Edwards brothers and some say Edwards coaches on the council website. Clearly identifying 2 different organisations

Both companies are taking over ex-Silcox services, with Edwards Bros taking over services in the west close to their base in Tiers Cross. Taf Valley Coaches are taking over a few services that serve or are close to Carmathenshire and First Cymru are taking over a couple of routes.

Wonder what vehicles are going to be used on the services tomorrow? Would they have to bring in fleet or can they use Silcox's buses/coaches?
