Good afternoon,

I'm looking for a little advice. I am an employment adviser for a disability charity in Edinburgh, and I'm currently working with a lad who is absolutely train mad. I am trying, then, to get him a job involving trains or the railways. Even cleaning on trains would be a dream job for him.

However, I am finding it hard to get my head around what companies are contracted to clean trains - inside or outside. Essentially, I am hoping to find him a part time job that either would involve travelling to a depot local to Edinburgh to clean trains, or cleaning/picking litter on trains, but always ending up back in Edinburgh.

Does anyone here have any insight into what firms have the contracts on which trains? I have tried Interserve, as I know they do the cleaning within Waverley station. If any of you have any other suggestions then this would be brilliantly helpful.

Thanks!

Wettons are contracted to do train cleaning by my TOC in the south east. Their head office is London but their website mentions that they operate from regional offices throughout the UK. May be worth a go.

I believe that ISS do the contract cleaning work for VTEC (most of the Intercity trains out of EDN). Not sure about Scotrail or Cross Country. May also be worth approaching the companies directly. There may be something at maintenance depots. Hope you have some success.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
And just to clarrify the train companies opperating to and from Edinburgh are:
Virgin Trains, Virgin trains East Coast, Transpenine express, Scotrail and Calledonian sleaper. Note however no cleaning or suchlike of sleaper trains is done in Edinburgh with coaches returning to Glasgow during the day and back again of am evening

ISS were definitely on a number of our VTEC trains last weekend, walking through the train collecting rubbish

Some operators use a mixture of contractors and their own staff to clean strains/stations. It's always better to get a job for a TOC as you then get the perks they offer such as the free travel and good pension. Not sure what it's like with TOCs serving your neck of woods mind you.
