Police Oyster Card

Evening folks,

I am unsure if this is the correct subsection to ask the following question, however, knowing the knowledge that's floating around I'll get the correct answer.

With regards to "oyster" cards within London..... I know Oyster cards can be used, as it's clearly noted in websites, on the AGA line up to a specific point (on this occasion Shenfield)

However, is it true that...... Emergency services (police specifically) are NOT allowed to use their Oyster card on the routes that "General public" can?

Yes, Police oyster cards are only valid for use on TfL services and a select few NR services which generally run alongside TfL services.

In order to travel to Shenfield with a Police oyster you would need to use the TfL Rail service.

I assumed the same as you, that "Police Oyster cards" CAN be used alongside general TFL Oyster cards, BUT, I am informed by revenue they don't accept them (I asked under what authority and did not get a clear answer). I then asked a police officer and I've had two different answers, one states they can the second officer said they can't?

It would be good to get something definitive

My understanding is that on National Rail routes where there is free travel for police officers, the production of a warrant card gives the authority to travel. The Police Oyster card was introduced to reduce the workload of Gateline staff at LU stations and as such I assume it can only be used as a gate pass at those stations.

I am willing to be corrected but I understand the warrant card acts as the photocard for police Oyster cards and as such the Oyster card isn't valid for travel without the warrant card.

For City Of London Police it does, for the Met Police they need their Rail Card (aka ATOC card) as well. See attached.
The Police oyster card is valid on all TFL services.
