On a quiet moment, I recalled that my late grandfather had told me that the Allan Water had been considerably realigned by the railway to take out all the bends and to cut down on the engineering required.
Looking at the maps, there certainly appeared to be surprsingly straight stretches both between the fomer Springbank Mill in Dunblane and the source of the Allan Water near Blackford.
So I went a bit further back and checked out the NLOS maps and found this one:-

It certainly appears that the river was realigned to permit a better engineering solution for the railway.
Are there other rivers with such a significant proportion of their overall length that were apparently realigned specifically for the railways (rather than canals)?
Also, the keen eyed will note a rather intriguing sports-specific railway halt on the map. There are plenty of Golf stations and halts, is this the only Curling station?
