Personally I think Roger Helmer will be the surprise winner in the leadership race for UKIP.

I doubt Paul will get voted in

Without Farage will they be a spent force ?

I doubt it. If Corbyn gets elected, and the 174 Labour MPs all stand down from the party (and as MPs) in order to form another party and stand again in a By-Election, UKIP will campaign hard in those Northern seats full of leave voters and are likely to clean up.

They are very keen to oversee the exit process and ensure that the Government doesn't cave into Freedom of Movement demands, and they will play on that and make sure their voice is heard.

However once were out out, then they will die into insignificance.

I think longer term though, if Labour moves further to the left, and the Tories further to the right, UKIP may re-brand and move further into the Centre

Not necessarily. MPs like Lucy Powell, Angela Eagle, Hilary Benn and Luciana Berger (who were until recently members of the shadow cabinet) represent pro-Remain parts of Northern England. While new appointments to Corbyn's shadow cabinet like Andy McDonald, Cat Smith and Debbie Abrahams represent pro-Leave parts of Northern England.

Is it too cynical for me to believe the idea that he has only stepped down so he can avoid all of the actual decision making regarding Brexit, to then come back in a couple of years time, blame the Brexit resolution for the mess we are in and blame everything on the EU / immigrants once more?

See, another job the Europeans do that the British don't want to...:lol::lol:

he pushed for the exit vote in the referendum

You didn't notice what party he represented then?

he has divided the UK
Further he has dived the population of the UK

No, he pushed for a referendum. The country was already divided.

Now he has jumped ship before his ship sinks

His ship (H.M.S. UKIP?) has served it's purpose.

Good ridance , but how long will it take for UK to recover from his extremist influence on voters

Any more extremist than the people screaming for a new referendum because the vote didn't go their way?

Democracy does not stop at the vote. This is not extremist - it's common knowledge amongst anyone who knows anything about politics, and doesn't have a vested interest in crystallising their current favourable position into a permanent state of affairs.

No great surprise to me that Nigel (I'll call him by his first name unlike the OP:roll:) has decided to step down, his objective having been achieved.

I can appreciate that he is something of a 'marmite' character, although the same could be said of many politicians, but some of the vitriol and bile not too mention death threats directed at him really is disgusting.

Just a straight forward down to earth bloke who tells it like it is and he'll certainly go down in history for what he's achieved, and he's done it without setting foot in parliament!

Yesterday Nigel Farage was caught on camera enjoying a garden party with the rich and powerful, including Rupert Murdoch, Liam Fox and billionaire Evgeny Lebedev. But he is leaving the door open if the UK does not get a Brexit he likes.

Yes people; the UKIP is there for the ordinary folks!

What a bizarre posting!

He pushed for a referendum and got one.

The UK was already divided in case you hadn't noticed.

He has simply stepped down having achieved what he set out to do.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion of him but extremist influence on voters? Yeah right:roll: The extremist influence is those who cannot accept a democratic referendum because it didn't bring the outcome that they wanted.

What a bizarre posting!

What's bizarre about it? Farage said Brexit was a victory for the ordinary people and throws a party celebrating with rich elite people coming. If it was a victory for the ordinary people, the rich elite wouldn't have turned up to his party - they certainly didn't turn up just for a free volovant and glass of wine!

Who he chooses to socialize with really is his business, I don't suppose they were all billionaires at this bash anyway.

Yes Farage can celebrate with whoever he wants. However, the guest list proved the victory wasn't for working and lower middle class people and it's been widely reported a number of such people who voted leave already feel the promises leave made were lies (what remain supporters knew all along) due to what people like Farage, Johnson, Duncan-Smith and Gove have said after the referendum result e.g. no cap on immigration, no guarantee of extra money for the NHS etc. That's precisely why Farage has jumped ship and Johnson has said he doesn't want to be captain - they've realised they made promises which aren't going to be kept.

Most people refer to most politicians by their surname, or both names. Corbyn, Farage, Cameron, Clegg, Obama, Blair, Trump, Hunt, Merkel, Gove. Those interested in personalities refer to them by first name, "Boris", "Nigel", etc.

I blame Blair.

Does it say in the forum rules that we have to refer to all politicians by their first name? Take it from me, no one cares what you call him.

Who pockets £84,000 a year as an MEP and who has said that he'll continue to do so until we leave? Yes a real champion of the people.

Despite not fulfilling all his duties as MEP e.g. he was absent for 19/20 meetings for a committee he was on. Imagine if George Osborne didn't bother to turn up for 95% of Treasury meetings.

That would be the fisheries committee. The one that could have ensured better treatment for UK fishermen (say enforce quotas for independent fishermen, or not allow countries to sell their quotas). If only he'd bothered to engage in the democratic process.

UKIP has served it's purpose, Farridge has resigned, time to close the party down.

Round 2......

English Republican Party
English Independence Party
English National Party
English Democratic Republicans

With all the "British" this and "British" that, people are overlooking the elephant in the room, "Great Britain".

"We were great once you know"

As a layman, please can someone explain to me what the is the relevance of the pseudo-country Great Britain and the German monarchy which it funds?

And don't say tourism because that happens anyway, not because of the Queen.

Perhaps people come here to see all the things we stole from other countries?

I don't know, please enlighten me....

Indeed. Royal palaces in countries like Germany and Portugal are major tourist attractions despite those countries having abolished their royal families. If anything abolishing the royal family could boost tourism in Norfolk and Aberdeenshire as what would then be former royal palaces could open up to the public. I doubt Fussen, Germany or Sintra, Portugal would get so many tourists if it wasn't for the palaces.

Yes but then if he fixed the problem as a result of being a MEP on that committee he'd have to say being in the EU fixed the problem opposed to saying the EU is the problem, which would be a great advert for the pro-EU political parties and poor publicity for UKIP.

Some interesting points (if misguided). I don't recall Britain's castles, stately homes and natural attractions being stolen, but who cares, any excuse to bash the UK!

As for the monarchy, I don't particularly like it but we might as well keep it.

Now as a country, we aren't called Great Britain because that is the geographical (and not a political) name of the largest island of the British Isles. Our political name is actually the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It's just common courtesy surely?

I also couldn't help noticing that the same op calls George Osborne exactly that in another thread.

I don't think it really matters, as long as one knows who is bejng referred to. If you want to be as polite as possible, then it's Mr Farage. First name terms are too informal.

It's common courtesy to your friends - not politicians. He's not your mate.

I was referring to the British museum.

Why do you think my points are misguided? Just throwing it out there for debate, if you don't want to answer any of those issues that's cool, would've hoped someone would've at least had a go (hopefully without sanctimony - not directed at you, Great Britain and it's ideals have really brought out the self-righteous since brexit)

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - really rolls off the tongue doesn't it? But you speak English, live in England and support England in Rugby, cricket and football (I assume) so why are we not referred to always as England?

Isn't it time for Eexit?

Maybe London can keep the UK/gb thing and give us our own national assembly. I would vote in to the EU if it was England and not UK/gb

I'm not keen on the nationalistic bullcrap that has been encouraged by brexit and I wasn't too happy with the result of the referendum. However, we aren't that bad as a country and in any case, it's difficult for any country to achieve a perfect track record. Let us not forget that it was not just the Europeans who engaged in pillaging and slavery.

Now to address your other points, are you saying that you want a greater English identity or you expect there to be am increase in English nationalism? As for the other guff, we are known as Great Britain in the same way that the USA is known as the states, it's just what we are sometimes referred to as. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make with regards to the relevancy of the country.
