Evening all,

As some of you will have seen in various threads lately, I've been heavily planning 2017's trips. Nothing confirmed really, with just one confirmed trip so far:

7th-14th January 2017 - Tech's Big Bang 2017

Following recent trip report threads and discussions, Norway is 100% on the list to do. I have made some rough plans, and a seperate thread in the International Rail section will be required to ask the experts about the NSB legs of that. Getting to/from and staying in Oslo is nearly organised already!

Other international trips I'd like to do include Dublin for the new extension to LUAS and of course some Guiness (easy enough to fit into my usual days off), Stockholm to finish clearing the Metro and Vienna to clear the U-Bahn completely (again, a possibility to fit into my usual days off). Mind you, I'd like to get Spain off my Required Western Europe Countries list. Same for Italy actually!

Back in the UK, and on Planet Earth, I haven't found any slots for these yet but I would like to do multiple London bashes, a couple of trips to Manchester, a trip to Newcastle, one to West Yorkshire, one to South Yorkshire and a multi day visit to Anglia. As the year goes on I suspect that will change quite a bit, but we will see what happens!

Wow - you really do explore the globe!

I've not really got much planned - I've a few ideas of what to do in the summer but nothing confirmed. Probably not a lot between January and June with exams coming up that I really should attempt at revising for. Might go out on a couple of day trips in the first week of January though - take advantage of the weird Christmas holiday I have!

Yes Tech. Hopefully April starting from Nottingham so that we can leave some kids with family. Taking in the S&C and a 37 or two on the Cumbrian coast with my lovely wife, might need a tip on hotels nearer the time. Excited already!

I'm looking at starting to plan 2017's ALR with my friend Tony early next year, with a view to having it in April. I haven't got a clue where we're going yet, but we're definitely going to do the Night Riviera again, especially as we both still need the St Ives Branch.

Next year's targets are as follows, in order of priority.

1) Clear the Merseyrail fleet - If I don't manage to do it in the two days I have set aside for Merseyrail next month, then I'm planning to achieve this target as early as possible in New Year. Once this is done, I'm seriously considering trying to clear it again before the current fleet gets withdrawn.
2) Clear the Northern fleet - At the moment, I still need 16 DMUs and 7 EMUs. I'm still prioritising the 142s, 153s and 323s, but this is a goal I've wanted to achieve for the past three or four years, hopefully 2017 is the year I finally manage to achieve it.
3) Clear the Class 185s - Last time I checked I still require 17. I'm not too bothered if I don't manage this one (getting down to single figures would be nice, though!), but I definitely want to achieve this before the new trains start arriving.

I haven't really thought about much else yet, although another two or three visits to South Wales are definitely on the cards. I'd like to go on the Eurostar again, but I have a feeling that won't happen until 2018 at the earliest. Other than all that, it'll be my usual days out on the rails next year!

Next year.... ho hum! January and February are taking shape already and multiple railtours are either already booked or ready to book when available!

January will include a BLS Scunthorpe steelworks bash, 1.5 days on the Cumbrian coast and three days in Germany. The primary reason for the latter is a trip with V200.033 to Wernigerode and a trip up the Brocken!
February has D1015 at the end of the month to Cardiff and Plymouth

Then long term undated plans will include a couple of days around Bristol and Cardiff and a trip to the south of France!

I've got an overnight trip to East Anglia booked at the start of January. Should get 37/68/90 haulage in plus plenty of new coverage.

I've booked a railtour in March.

I will do something in Feb. Going to aim for one trip per month, but I don't tend to book too far ahead as I use advance tickets.

Edit: Scotland now booked for Feb.

This time last year I had lots of stuff planned, but this year due to personal circumstances I've only got one thing planned as yet. There's a model railway exhibition at Ally Pally in March, so I'm planning on a long weekend up the smoke. A bit of riding around on and photting of 313s and 315s will be on the list of things to do, as they are both becoming endangered species. The 313s fit in nicely with spending an hour or two at the exhibition too. I still need the chord that takes you between the two Beckenhams, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it on a weekend. I really must visit the LT museum at Covent Garden, or so I thought until I saw the entrance fee.

There's a diesel gala at Swanage in May that might be tempting, I can get there quite cheaply on a FOSS rover. Just depends what's on offer really. If it's the usual suspects the I won't bother.

Well what else do you do in the winter!
Trying to put together a European circuit via Utrecht railway museum, Harz mountains, Leipzig, Prague, Vienna, Semmering pass walking trail... and back to the UK via some unspecified route, maybe trying the ÖBB sleepers from Austria to Germany.

So far planned (and booked) is a trip to Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff (x2). Plus several railtours, with a Scottish week in late May

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
During the course of the summer, I was thinking about spending most of 2017 south of the mighty Thames, as I still require quite a bit of track of the South Eastern Railway and London, Chatham, & Dover Railway outwith the London zonal system.

Enter stage left/front of house right, the present franchise for Anglia Region has thrown a spanner in my intended plans, as there are still several trains of the fleet that I require for haulage.

I intend to do the Midland Meander railtour in February, and as it is my partner's birthday, I will attempt to get her to come along as she has mentioned that she would like to visit Stratford-upon-Avon.

I will also attempt to clear the GWR IC125 powercars, so as to save me a task of hanging around on the footbridge at Haymarket station for them to roll in.

I have a feeling that most of my plans for 2017 will mainly concentrate on clearing trains for haulage, and not so much focus on bagging new track.

I will probably be seeing you on the tour :)

Some monster trips lined up for 2017 for some people!

Roversfan: I *talk* about travelling the globe more than I actually manage to get around! Mind you, 2016 saw me visit New York and Vienna in the same year, so anything's possible. Once I clear the magic plastic I'm sure I will get myself more so around the Earth!

Seems a good moment to post my Bucket List:

- More of the USA (so places like Washington DC, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Grand Canyon amongst other stuff)

- The rest of Western Europe (Spain, Italy, Denmark and Switzerland I think is all I need there) as well as Norway and Finland

- Not on my own, but some if not all of Eastern Europe

- Japan
- Australia
- New Zealand

Next year I'm hoping to get out on the rails more as this year has been full of other stuff that has gotten in the way of the hobby (my last trip out was way back in mid September) anyway planning on going to Anglia for the 37s/68s. Going to try and do the Severn Valley Diesel Gala (was going to do it this year but GCSEs got in the way) also going to try and score off some of the larger heritage railways that I'm yet to travel on (midhants, midnorfolk, bluebell) hopefully on top of that I'll be able to get atleast one railtour in and of course many bashing sessions in London. So all in all, hopefully going to be very busy for me in 2017.

My wife and I are having our usual Landmark Trust holiday in January, so I've been looking at what can be done locally.

My sister's getting married (again!) on a Wednesday in February, so naturally I've booked the Thursday & Friday off work as well and intend to do a multi day move (Mrs 13 has already agreed that this would be an opportune time for her to spend a few days chilling in Bridlington :)).
The only issue is where.

Other than that, I guess it'll be more of the same - if it ain't broke don't fix it :)

Get to Wales and clear the Welsh pacers

Do the last D stock runs

Do one of the sleepers

Eurostar

A few more meets with the forum - especially any with bb21 who I recently met in London and found to be the one person with more energy in him then I!

Take Big Joan out as much as possible

Try and cab a few trains

A lot of other stuff, but nothing else springs to mind

I've just two trips on Virgin's East Coast's, lose or snooze promotion. Kings cross to Newcastle £20 return and then Kings to Leeds £10 return. Both in January.

Well to be honest, bashing isn't high on the agenda and gets fitted in on a bit of an ad hoc basis...

But here goes my/our plans anyway:

14/01-15/01- Weekend away in London thanks to the VTEC sale. We're staying in Ealing so a few scores on the GWML to be had.
08/02- Uni open day in Sheffield, a few hours spare to do the Supertram!
14/04-19/04- London and Paris, so hopefully a few track scores on SNCF/RATP.
28/05-30/05- Dublin. Probably something on LUAS and Irish Rail at least within the city

My preferred uni move to Sheffield in September should make everything I want to do bashing wise a heck of a lot easier!

I'd love to clear my last 142s, much like HMS Ark Royal. Just 5 of the blighters to go.

I'm doing this as well then the NFP tour in the Czech Republic the following week; haven't decided yet what to do in between the two but probably won't stray beyond Germany and the Czech Republic.

Beyond that I only have a couple of trips to Hungary planned in April / May and am not thinking too hard about anything else due to some possible changes in personal circumstances next year.

Just all the Uni of Sheffield accommodation is bloody ages away from Sheffield station ;)

I cleared Northern and EMT quite easily based in Sheffield at uni for 2 years

I was thinking that but considering that the earliest Birmingham departure I can catch at the moment is the service that calls Sheffield at 8:24, it'll still provide a certain advantage.

I'm currently 15 minutes from Newcastle Central by car or about 120 minutes on foot so can't be much worse.

That and I can see myself taking advantage of the 0325 Manchester Airport departure etc etc

Big trip for me planned in September time as I attempt to visit the shacks on the West Highlands Line :)

I'm breaking my rules on shared accommodation to stay in a hostel around Banavie due to the quite high cost of accommodation in that area

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
As always lots of ideas but often not the wherewithall to exicute them.

Currently wating to see if/when the SRPS will be running a trip to kyle as its my last Scottish regular passenger track and every time I plan to do it something or other goes wrong so think I'll fork out the ching and get it dome that way with doubtless some interesting traction.

Got a return from King's Cross to York for £10 in the VTEC sale, so that can be added to the list!

Also considering trying to clear Wick and Thurso, and an SPT Roundabout, funds permitting.

Hmm, now I have got an idea floating around, I'll discuss it with you tomorrow once I have it sorted.
