Platform 3 at Wellington (Shropshire) I don't think sees much use any more as I don't think trains terminate there any more.

For many years Platform 3 at Chesterfield wasn't used regularly but it is now.

Platform 1 at Denton I don't think gets any passenger usage given the nature of the station.

I don't think I have ever heard of Platform 3 at Penrith The North Lakes being used but thats not to say its never used.

On the Metrolink I don't think Platforms B and D at St Peter's Square have ever been used.

That because the 2CC hasn't yet opened ;)

Reference Crewe, isn't it platform 2 which is rarely used?

True about the second city crossing.

I think its used by East Midlands Trains for the first and last trains of the day.

Platform 2 at Mirfield has no scheduled trains. Last time I saw it used was during engineering works between Huddersfield and Manchester. It may have been used during the Stalybridge blockade (due to not enough capacity to turn everything at Huddersfield, as Bradley Curve is single-track) but I don't recall seeing it in use.

Having looked at a map there appears to be essentially no reason for Pilning station to exist, I don't see why they don't just start closure proceedings.

I believe there is/was housing development plans for the area, so going through the costly process to close the station to potentially re-open it in the near future wouldn't be economical compared to just running a really basic service. Most of the village itself is closer to Severn Beach but that only gets a train once every two hours to Bristol. For Pilning, the daily services got made weekly in 2006. I guess it is a useful place for a train to limp to if it develops a fault in the Severn Tunnel.

If housing ever gets built within reasonable distance of the station, I think the station should become of more use and could be a stop on the hourly Cardiff Central - Taunton services (subject to a new footbridge being constructed. Nobody is going to use a service where they can't get home!)

Perth platform 3 if memory serves correct.

I think there are some early morning/late night services there, maybe they are not normally booked from there though. Why did they stop using platform 3 regularly?

Haymarket platform 0.

Having been on a train which has stopped on P8 due to an additional call order, it is a large step from the train to the platform.
That's why it's not normally used.

London, Surrey... bit of a blur round here...
Do the bays at Exeter St Davids (P2) and Exeter Central (P1?) have anything timetabled in them? I know the Barnstaple and Exmouth services used to use the respective bays, but now the services are all - well, mostly - through services, are they used these days?

Platforms on both the up and down mains at
Ealing Broadway (down main only)
Southall
Hayes & Harlington
West Drayton
Iver
Langley
Taplow
Tilehurst
Goring & Streatley
Cholsey
are only used during engineering work (and some of them aren't used much then either - eg. Taplow is often just served by the buses that have to be run to serve Burnham anyway).

Surely there are other such examples on 4/6 track lines around the country?

I believe that the fast line platforms at Ealing Broadway and Southall and Hayes & Harlington get Heathrow Connect trains every Sunday. The fast line platform at Acton Main Line gets one Heathrow Connect train a day on Mondays to Thursdays. Havent all of the fast line platforms at West Ealing and Hanwell been removed?

It's just not needed for the service level that exists.

True, but I'm just wondering why they changed from mostly using 3 and 4 to using 4 and 7. It just seems odd that from the concourse, you go first to platform 3 then cross over to get to the island.

The two outer ones at Startford International always spring to mind. Only ever been used for Javelin Shuttles during 2012 Olympics but even then needed temporary raised surfaces to comply.

Although as the tracks looked very rusty on Sunday when I paused there, I doubt they have seen any trains since that Javelin tour earlier in the year

Haymarket platform 0.

Ye, there are morning and late services which are scheduled on passenger services daily. The Royal Scotsman and Northern Belle railtours use platform 3 when they come up to Perth also, as the junction before the buffers allows an easy runaround.

Also, platform 3 has been used on occassions on Inverness through services when platform 7 is unavailible. Most notabley when we had the heavy snow in 2010 swamped outdoor platforms, including 7. Perth is blessed to have such capacity compared to other stations.

As for Haymarket I don't recall any scheduled services, although I have been on an Inverness-Edinburgh one which was diverted via Stirling and terminated/started at Haymarket platform 0 last year.

Furthermore to the list; Aberdeen platforms 1 and 2 have no passenger services on them. Majority is just train stabling.

Balham has 2 platforms (3&4?) that see very little use.

I did use them about 3 years ago when the local trains were using the fast line due to engineering works.

Does anything use Platform 3 at Wrexham? Seems surplus to requirements, and I've yet to see anything on the boards.

Platforms 4 and 5 at Stirling kind of fit the description. No passenger trains call there, and indeed the signalling infrastructure prohibits their use in passenger work AIUI. That said, I think Scotrail do stable units there.

Does Platform 3 at Liverpool South Parkway actually have anything scheduled to depart from it? I know the London Midland services do use it occasionally but are they scheduled to?

Hatch End WCML Fasts and Slow Platforms
Wembley Central P3+ 4 ( i was gonna add Harrow , but I have taken trains from the fast line platforms there )

Wembley Central also seems to have some sort of disused platform , next to the Up Slow . Can anyone shed any info on what it is ?

I don't think I have seen one the of the platforms at Manchester Airport Metrolink used.

Some of the seaside terminal stations such as Skegness, Blackpool North and Scarborough have more platforms than they seem to need although I am not sure if its a case that they are never used.

Witham P1 doesn't see a passenger service IIRC. It's often used as a freight loop when I pass it.

Platform 1 (also known as the Maldon Back Platform) has several booked departures in both the morning/evening peak.

Where the doors released during the tour at these platforms?

Someone will probably correct me but I have a feeling all the GEML fast platforms between Brentwood & Maryland, with the exception of Romford (and possibly Ilford?) have no booked calls.
