90mph will go down well when she comes down south - hoping that SWT/NR/Steam Dreams stick her on the fast from Woking to Worting Junction. HELLFIRE <D

I believe that steam locos are not allowed to take their support coaches on turning moves if there's no loco at the other end or, I may be wrong with this point, outside station shunting limits. Back in July 2007 when Tangmere did a CathEx to Canterbury and Faversham, it was sent to Swale, then ran tender first from there to Rainham (Kent), then back to Faversham. And it did that on it's own, no support coaches, etc.

Thats sense to me, its certainly a rare thing to see on the mainline thats for sure.

Hi Mark lucky you I must book a trip this year behind Torndao, Im also thinking of joining up to Tornado aswels o other locos yeah she is a brilliant loco, you seen in the Mail on sunday they have one big picture of her.
ps
the naming ceremony is expected soon, gonna be very big event, and lotsa other events hopefully in the pipeline too...
please please she needs more sponsors,
if you fancy joining up for only £5 a month (which is not much) you can enjoy yourwself and know you are contributing to british history
thanks

I hear that she may get a flypast by two RAF Tornado's as thats what the A1 trust named her after the Tornado role in the Gulf war , Plus I hear that High rank people in the RAF will be handing over the nameplates too?

Just done a search on google news to find all the news pieces that have been posted, most of them quite good and factually correct until we come to our friends at the BBC, I'm not having a gripe as such, at least they sort of covered the event but see if you can find the glaring error(s)

I am guessing the route as it ws just York to Newcastle , and that route was today without newcastle.

Yep, presume it just went for a round the bridges to get it facing the right way again.

They'd need special permission for it to run over the High Level Bridge. I recall this being discussed last year, when 71000 went that way, hauled by a 66 after spadding at Low Fell.

Which won't happen, yet. Tornado has to prove itself at a maximum speed of 75mph before we will be seeing her travelling at 90mph.

just a quick update now

ive just got in back to london after coming down on the big T (tornado) from darlington/york this morning, left ontime at 0745 and good run to york, we had some slow running now and again and then held at peteboroough due OHL probs,

im not doing back to the north as i live here and its diesel back anyway as big T is now in london til next sat at old oak common,

we arrived a bit late into kx due the overhead line problems (not us lol)

all went well then and once we got going again south and onto in bedfordshire we stormed down to london,
am sure you had some good vantage points,
the stations at st neots, hitchin, finsbury park etc were crammed !

kings cross was chaos hehe
and no doubt the tv news will have her on at 6pm

the police chopper in bedforshire and north london was keeping up with us, what fun for them

i will upload some videos after tea !
phew im knackered

i dont know for sure about delays due to trespass but the crew were very concerned about it...
1000's were along the route, was very lovely to see,

the delay was told to us as OHL issues

It made the C4 news this evening. BBC didn't mention it.

75mph will be fine for me. I'm really looking forward to my ride next Saturday. I'm hoping I will get a chance to take some photos of her. Cause I'm disabled I cant run around getting photos quickly.I think there are a couple of stops though.I'm really excited

Heard that as well.

I heard that it was people down the line standing on the slow line sleepers (of all things) and soo trains were cautioned / stopped by Peterborough PSB

The station staff at Peterborough were helpful - the duty manager even took picutres with us as well

It was estimated that 2500 people turned out to see her at Kings Cross. There was no room to move, and it took several people 30 minutes to get from one end of platform one, to the other!
For those of you who know what a train is, this video will make you proud http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTLKrKpFT5U

Well done lads, you've done a good job.

Who needs a diesel, no way would any diesel get a turn out like that. And 2500, was just for Kings Cross... not to mention the rest of the journey.

That's great to see - I watched it coming through near Brookmans Park on its way in, and the number of people who turned out with cameras and video cameras to watch it go past was amazing - there must have been a hundred people on the one short stretch of footpath!

I was at Hadley Wood on the way in. Amazing. No diesel tour would ever attract this much attention.

Cracking vid - although that horn just sounds demonic!

Totally agree that not that many people would turn out for a diesel - I think there is a general essence and beauty about steam that capitualtes the entire general public - even people who don;t have an interest in trains/railways.

so it was you josh i saw LOL:lol: cool m8

i was waving madly from 2nd last coach, you were on end of platform hehe
i think u saw me!

re the crowds at KX omg when we got off it took us 45 mins to get from back to the loco and then the loco left grrrrr
yes i would say there were several 1000's at kx plus the 4-500 that got off !!

someone asked what was her speed, we got 77 and the best running fast was after peterborough,
probably st neots was pretty fast and hitchin?

the crew told me 90mph was done on her nov test and 75 mph is the norm at the mo, but 90mph is planned for on the mainline...
when? no idea lol

Not to put a dampner on things, but I found it highly annoying. In the PBO area alone, tresspass related incidents owing to this oversized Kettle cost the industry over 200 delay minutes, which at an average of £160 per minute has cost the industry £32,000!

So I really hope those of you with your photos, specifically around the Holme area, think it was worth it!
